Caution: British plates are just a smidgeon too long to fit in the rebate in German frames.

V. recently I saw some red ones - but, off the top of my head, can't remember where.

In my experience, these backing plates don't do anything except remain slightly loose, and can rattle.
Personal preference is for a smooth borderless acrylic number plate, directly (and invisibly) fixed to bodywork.

Choice of number plate style does put the "finishing touch" to a car. Surprising how many smart classics still carry tatty ('original') plates, tired-looking, with prominent dealer names and wonky borders.

I'd just use a blunt paint scraper thing up against the edge of the glue blob and tap the end of that with a hammer. I'd expect the araldite to just chip off/detach?

Only time the dealer plates are worth keeping IMO is if they're in good shape and from the original dealership. Personally, the ones I chose for Black are Irish font (slightly thinner than UK but still within legal size & spacing limits) since they look a little more "continental" that way, and I did go for a Euro star & French identifier on the left side (the letter being covered at MoT time)...

Good idea.
Mark round the outer edge of your replacement plate with a felt pen, so you know how far to go chipping!!

That kinda thing (a wallpaper stripping knife rather than a scraper - badly described by me last post...)

One could argue that a head/brain is not required for operators of such machinery... In fact I can imagine it'd be an advantage not to have given the amount of noise/vibration coming from the machine.

ZX is starting to really come good now, making me a tad green seeing the deal you got 8-)
