Re: Aisin Tf-80 / AM6 Oil Change Questions (Mini-Guide Page 4)
My one has done 84k now, i really want it done too. I have fluid, ordered seals from saabits. Im a bit concerned about this 60° thing, as I am not quick at doing things to get it all prepared for doing.

Re: Aisin Tf-80 / AM6 Oil Change Questions (Mini-Guide Page 4)
The first temperature requirement before draining is just to get all of the crud dissolved in the hot oil and moving so that when you drain it as much as possible is drained out.
The second requirement for temperature is for setting the correct level, this is more important I think. Citroen say 60+8-2 degrees so there is a bit of leeway, from looking at the Diagbox readout the AM6 temp tracked about 4 or 5 degrees lower than the engine coolant temperature whilst idling.
The Lexia is required to reset the oil counter too therefore this is one of those jobs that does actually requires a computer to do.

Now that's not very nice is it

Has anyone actually contacted Citroen for a price yet?

I tried not to show my disappointment....but he spotted me sobbing in the corner!

Yep, I spoke to the dealer in Mansfield a few weeks ago - they quoted me....wait for it....£600+!!

I'm now back to thinking I'll just sell the car if I start getting any symptoms, seems less hassle tbh!

£600
.... they obviously didn't want the work then. I'm curious how they were going to change the full 7 litres as their own procedure says only 3 can be changed at any one time (unless they were to do it a few times)
For £460 you can get a Brand New valve body for the gearbox! That way you’d be entirely replacing the bits that wear with dirty oil... I don’t think its a particularly difficult job either.

Yeah that's the other option haha, there must be loads of high mileage C5's and C6's that have probably never had the oil changed and probably run ok. I'm a big fan of preventative maintenance myself... sometimes to the point of obsession
so I had to do it for my own conscience.

Re: Aisin Tf-80 / AM6 Oil Change Questions (Mini-Guide Page 4)
I asked the price of the oil at my Citroen dealer they say £42 and change retail for 2.0 litre pots.
My local factors GMF offer it for £9ish a litre, not sure of the brand but it's listed as suitable from my reg number and they're Total agents so maybe Total's product.

I'd be cautious about getting the correct oil, Citroen spec Esso JWS3309.... this sticks out as it's not a Total product that Citroen is so fond of. I used Mobil 3309 ATF, only £13 a litre.

I have been informed that Esso and Mobil are in fact the same company so that was reassuring.

Just as an aside, it seems that the oil choice has been covered here in 2014.

Interesting to see that the official Citroen oil is actually Mobil ATF 3309 like the stuff I used.... just with a PSA label on it.

Same bottle and everything.
I feel very reassured now that I used the correct stuff

I'm told by my local factor that most oil producers now supply an oil of the same specification for these AM6 boxes and that they've been supplying DriveTec oil to the local Citroen dealer for a considerable time without any problems.

That's interesting. From my research of forums (Volvo in particular) they were very keen on only using OEM oil for their TF-80... to the point that some people were derided for using Toyota spec oil, and they practically manufacture the box

Personally I'm suspicious of any oil that can claim to meet several standards especially when the proper PSA stuff is readily available.

Well I always stick to the oils specified by the vehicle manufacturer so as to be sure, except when the car is an 'old banger' then anything goes.

Came across this popping up on you tube when I was looking at a Renault 8!
Its a Volvo but the same Aisin Box but simply demonstrates the drain and refill and level checking process.

It's a really good guide, that video. I found it very helpful. I wish my atf was as red as his was on the first drain. Unfortunately mine was as black as the night
