Well, it's a hybrid not a pure EV so no drooling here, but it does still interest me on a technical level.

I presume that's a Diesel crammed in there beside the electric motor, or is it a petrol ?

They've done well to cram both engines side by side the engine bay!

I wasn't sure what it was and I couldn't get the tech as the guy was under a floor in the house! She said it plugged in where the VW badge was.
TBH I would rather have that than any current EV other than a Tesla. Best of both worlds and the performance and economy are very impressive. Lets face it Simon, EV ATM on a realistic level are pants! I would sooner buy a Honda Insight for 4k mate

Petrol Direct Injection. I never even knew about this family of FSI engines. Looks fun and games to work in there. A mate mentioned he has a Yeti with a 1.1 turbo petrol auto Same FSI series.

Ah you mean the same petrol direct injection technology that produces micro particulates not unlike diesels ?

I've read that GDI engines are soon going to start requiring particulate filters to meet EU regulations - a first for petrol engines...the direct injection process creates particulates where a conventional petrol fuel injection system does not.

Yes, they are Pacific Salmon. Tastes quite nice. Our Atlantic Salmon are deemed "superior" by game fishers and culinary experts. Wild ones being the best, I don't eat farmed Salmon.
Politics, Ethics, damage to bio systems and chemicals being the reason. All supermarket Salmon is farmed...........yuch! Long story guys.

Pacific Salmon for the table and can are wild Gibbo. That is because of their prolific numbers. Hundreds of millions of them run the rivers of Alaska alone. Our best rivers here only have Atlantic Salmon runs in the thousands. A rarer species the Atlantic and one under severe threat.

Allegedly the fuel tank on those is right at the back under the boot so not good in the event of a rear-ender...

I thought fuel tank positioning was subject to strict regulations but maybe not any more..

Interesting that the delayed action report on UK air pollution (the government is now in breach of probably two court orders) is delayed until after the Election. They really don't want to be the bearers of universal bad news, do they? - a guaranteed vote loser.

New Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) petrol engines for cars emit more cancer-causing particles than modern diesel engines, a new study by independent vehicle researchers TÜV Nord revealed today. While GDI engines make petrol cars more fuel-efficient and emit less CO2, the findings show that these new petrol engines typically release around 1,000 times more harmful particles than traditional petrol engines and 10 times more than new diesels.

The cost of a filter to eliminate particle emissions from GDI cars is low (around €50), with no loss in fuel efficiency and a big societal benefit. Despite this, carmakers are delaying fitting filters on GDI cars.

That article is dated 2013 so may not be true of the very latest GDI engines, but still, OUCH!

On topic comment: Followed a blue Tesla Model S home last night, although the closest I was was following the car behind it. Spoiled a bit by a roof rack and being a bit dirty but otherwise nice.

As long as it is legal Simon, I will drive it. I have a bundle of 2 stroke engines, as well as a Flame thrower
I light fires as well every week in the outdoors on remote islands. If you Geeks didn't hang around the city in your bubble cars on the end of a bus tailpipe while angsting over engine specs, you wouldn't get polluted so much

I have spotted quite a few today. Three Telsa Model S (black, dark grey, and white), one Nissan Leaf, and three BMW I3. The three Telsas, the Leaf and one of the BMW I3 were all spotted at Green Park (in Reading), where there are numerous charging points (I spotted 3 generic and 5 Tesla points, and that was just where I was working, at one building).

Round my bit of rural Northumberland, I would say there are about a dozen Leaf owners, so regular spots on a daily basis. At least 2 are on their second Leafs, and the ones I have spoken to, very happy with their cars.

At least one uses the Leaf on a 40 mile commute to Tyneside, recharging in Town.
