It's a great way to lean Linux in a gentle, easy way James...

Re: Image file upload facility added to the forum
It will take a shed load of work to re-link all the images then ?
What is best, bulk upload or leave "as is" until Media-Fire tells me to bugger off ?...I have been using them for years now without any payments/problems

Re: Image file upload facility added to the forum
I'm not scared of Linux at all, I've had reasonably pleasant experiences with it. I just chose apple over linux years ago when I abandoned windows as it was less faff setting up. Setting up an email server is a whole new world but funnily enough I did used to have my own domain albeit on a commercial server and it didn't trouble me. As I don't take pleasure from IT type stuff I have no recollection of how I did that.

Image file upload facility - DANGER
I suggest that anyone intending to write a post that includes images should:-
Because if you type up the text of a post, spend time locating and adding several images, and then click on the (name of the) next image to insert, you will see the image. IMHO, this is the intuitive thing to do if you have saved edited images with meaningful file names. There is no (obvious) way back from the image view - you have lost all changes since the last submit (if there has been one)!
Hugely frustrating to put it politely - especially if you've done it twice in a row.
Saving a draft is little help as it won't contain images or any record of what they were.
- 1. Compose all the text (minus images) and submit it, then
2. Edit the original post adding and inserting just one image,
3. Submit the edited post containing the one image,
Repeat steps 2 and 3 for each additional image.

Re: Image file upload facility added to the forum
I can see your issue now. I don't have an immediate fix, but as a workaround, you can right-click the image link and open it in a new tab, which will leave your original tab intact.

Re: Image file upload facility added to the forum
I've been using the image upload successfully for a while now, but today I am having an issue where it refuses to let me upload an image claiming that the resolution is too high when the file properties clearly show this is not the case:
Ironically the image above reporting the error is larger than the one it is complaining about but it has uploaded OK! Any thoughts ?

Re: Image file upload facility added to the forum
I have no ideas at present, but if you email the offending image to admins@frenchcarforum.co.uk, I will do some testing with it.

This is the image Simon just sent - I have simply saved the image as-is to my PC and attached as normal - no issues:

Re: Image file upload facility added to the forum
Not being able to reproduce the problem here, I have made a quick hack to the forum software, so that the error box above, now gives the actual sizes it sees in the place where the minimum sizes are normally shown.

It now says:
"ERROR
The image must be at least 1920 pixels wide, 1080 pixels high and at most 1600 pixels wide and 1600 pixels high. The submitted image is 1920 pixels wide and 1080 pixels high."
This time I am trying to upload from my laptop at home which is also running Windows 7 and Chrome. So that rules out my internet connection and a problem with a specific PC...
Puzzled why you guys aren't seeing the same issue ?

Re: Image file upload facility added to the forum
Can you try changing the file to a .png Simon. Has worked for me in the past.

Re: Image file upload facility added to the forum
Converting it to a png worked, thanks. I normally use PNG anyway.
Seems like a bug in the upload process on the forum for jpg's, I can't believe both my home and work PC's (or internet connections) are afflicted by the same problem.
