Re: The FCF AA BOX Summer Challenge 2016-13 left to be bagged!
I'm toying on the idea of a couple of days run about now, just because I have a fuel efficient vehicle that is large enough to sleep in. Highland boxes beware lol. There's a blingo on the look out! Aberdeenshire ones are in range of a day activaing [emoji13] [emoji4]

Re: The FCF AA BOX Summer Challenge 2016-13 left to be bagged!
I was hoping that the Somerset Box at Pitcombe Head, the junction between the A39 and New Road would be one of the ones easily knocked off the list. It may prove to be a little difficult. In 2014 it was removed for refurbishment, but has it been reinstated?......can't find any evidence that it has and google maps street view doesn't show it in place at that junction.

Now 12.... was down St Mary's loch way yesterday, and got a pic of the Cappercluch one. For anyone into it, there is a geo-cache right behind the box.

Seems to be without its number

Re: The FCF AA BOX Summer Challenge 2016-12 left to be bagged!
Tiitlle's changed and 12 remain... I have high hopes for all of Scotland to be claimed, something which will surely stir the Welsh! and rise the Westcountrymen out of their slumber. But Norfolk......is it a FCF hotbed? anyone planning a boating holiday on the Broads? and has anyone any contact with Jersey? An FCF Member with a very low mileage car perhaps....

This world is a poorer place for not having those AA boxes everywhere now

It's strange, I find, that things which are now protected and of historic interest wouldn't get planning permission now without a huge fight with the councillors, the nimbies, the ecologists and the conservationists.
Have you seen the grey boxes the Post Office erected to make delivery easier, town planners everywhere objected, required planning consent for each one and then charged the PO £135 for every application.
Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new. (Albert Einstein)

That is crazy... I guess BT or whatever they're called these days have the same issues with getting their green cabinets installed... I do believe I've heard rumours that has denied some folks fibre Internet because they could not get the necessary permissions to install a cabinet. A case of choose foot, take aim and fire!

I collected the Porlock AA box today while out for a drive in the XM!
I'll get the photos uploaded this week.
Its been a while since I've had time to pause at various points and appreciate the scenery around Mid/North Devon and West Somerset. It really is absolutely breathtaking.

Re: The FCF AA BOX Summer Challenge 2016-12 left to be bagged!
A friend mentioned there used to be a well used AA office and box at Halcon Corner in Taunton. Traffic was awful through Taunton before the M5 during summer as Saturday was market day which combined with holiday changeover caused chaos. Many holiday makers used to stop and renew their AA membership while caught up in it all. The office and box were taken down when the junction was redeveloped, the guy thinks it was abandoned for a while until that point.
Halcon corner is the juction between Illminister Rd, Bridgwater Rd and Hamilton Rd.

Re: The FCF AA BOX Summer Challenge 2016-12 left to be bagged!
Looking for some old pictures which might have had that box on it (Box 138 Halcon Corner (tel. Taunton 3363!)) I found some other boxes which have survived in museums etc, including one from Beamish Musem Co.Durham. So extra points for any original photography of these bonus boxesred_dwarfers wrote:A friend mentioned there used to be a well used AA office and box at Halcon Corner in Taunton.

Steve my apologies for bringing in a quote from the French car spotting thread but it made me smile putting the 2 together....myglaren wrote:A green V-reg Xantia estate looking very presentable driving into my estate as I drove out on one of my magical mystery tours.
If only the Beatles Magical Mystery Tour had taken in Consett as well they could have had a track called "Barry's Bargain Discount Store"
