How much do you think servicing (poor) is to blame vrs poor design ?.....sort of like the Ford oil feed problems in the 80s

Re: Confessions of a Citroholic
Hope so - I think I'll take the oil filter out after 3k and see what it looks like. Although the sump strainer is only just over 1" dia, and only has about 1-2mm of gunge on it, so there is not a lot to catch really by the oil filter.DHallworth wrote:Fingers crossed that'll be the end of that one, Richard!
Easy fortunately! It can be done without removing anything else except the under tray. There are about 20 8mm headed bolts - 3 are difficult to access under the exhaust, but you can get them with an assortment of spanners. There is a stud at each end of the sump - the one at the cam belt end has a water pipe bolted to it, you just need to 'lift' this off over the stud. There is no gasket, it's just stuck on with silicone - however, it is easy to get off - the two studs have an E5 fitting on the end, and a washer fixed in the middle, so once you've got all the bolts out, unwind the studs and they will pull the sump off. With the exhaust in place, it's necessary to fully unscrew the flywheel end stud, and then remove it with the sump (and the same in reverse to refit). The worst bit is that you've now got to clean all the old sealant off the sump before applying new and refitting! Yuk.... You might as well remove the oil pick up (3 torx bolts) and rip the strainer out whilst you are there....!DHallworth wrote:How easy is it to take the sump off that engine? Our 207 has a very slight leak from the sump gasket. I've wondered about resealing it several times but I've never had the inclination to do it.
David.

Re: Confessions of a Citroholic
Been a bit busy on house work to get much done on cars - last job was the rear pads / discs on the 307 which turned into an epic due to the rusted in TORX bolts! I did clean them out and wash them (unusual in our house!) as using them as builders' vans makes them a bit mucky! C4 now done >10k since the sump strainer was removed and it's running OK. However, on the list currently:
C4
Injector seals (in at the garage today) - another one is chuffing, going to see if the remaining 2 will come out and do those 2 as well as it is up to 95k now.
DPF additive warning light came on after last fill up - can't complain, it's got to 95k on the factory fill
Brakes need some looking at as the pedal is a bit long - suspect slides seized on rear brakes. Rear pads probably a bit low from when they were dragging last year, so possible discs and pads required (TORX bolts here look OK!)
307
NSF spring is broken
Cambelt change
DPF clean out whilst water is drained out to do the water pump.
New front tyres
Decided that I probably keeping both till one dies spectacularly / expensively then I will get another C4 Pic (hopefully a MK2) for SMWBO and I will run the other commuting until it, too, dies, and then get something else - possibly a 308 SW.

Re: Confessions of a Citroholic
The injector that was leaking came out with it's sleeve attached, and then refused to work properly when refitted, so had to have a new one. One of the others came out, but No4 refused. 4 hours labour, plus an injector came in at £320....

Re: Confessions of a Citroholic
Fault was an air flow issue - value implausible. It came on a couple more times, but has been off a while now...self fixed? New injector needs coding in I think - there's quite a pronounced diesel knock that wasn't there before - still it starts better now; must have been suffering a lack of compression on the leaking cylinder, or the injector was already on its way out.
307 on stands with the strut in the garage for new spring - got distracted onto house jobs when it started raining, need to get the new spring on today, then strut back on the car when (if!) it stops raining up here. Getting the strut out was a PITA as there is limited room to get at the top nut - just enough room to get in past the wiper mech with it on 'maintenance position' - but the plastic scuttle cross member needs to come out to get a spanner on it; and one of the captive nut cage things was not anymore so the grinder had to be deployed but there was not a lot of room - there is some collateral damage to the cross member - and a slight nick in the top edge of the wing

Aaargh
Sudden realisation that I had not put back the windscreen trim, and it's been raining all night
Check under the bonnet reveals that I had also not put back the fuse box cover, and yes the water has jumped the foot or so gap and made the top of the board wet
it's now in the oven with just the light on to dry it out - knob removed to prevent further f**kwitterty and cooking it properly

Re: Confessions of a Citroholic
Back together - fortunately the fuse box hasn't suffered from its dampening. It may be knackered anyway, as it smells a bit burnt, and there is a fault on it that it is mute on the VAN, and there is no coms with the additive ECU.
Win 10 has updated itself (anniversary update) which has crocked the Virtual Box manager so I can't run Diagbox at the moment - I've managed to get it running again but it won't start the virtual machine, as it needs the USB extensions, but when I try and install the matching versions it gets to the licence page, but then both the agree and disagree boxes are greyed out so I can't proceed

Re: Confessions of a Citroholic
I made DAMNED sure not to let my netbook upgrade to Windows 10 (as the Diagbox dialogue clearly says not to upgrade to Windows 10). Now the deadline for the free upgrade has passed I should not have that concern until next time Micro$oft decides to give it away free.
The current bugbear I have with Windows is that now (on my main system running Windows 10) it keeps telling me Office is out of date, and I should upgrade it (and it is a yearly licence!). I am perfectly happy with Office 2007 Enterprise, thank you (only cost me £30!).

Re: Confessions of a Citroholic
No option with this laptop - it was new last year, and did it as soon as it was switched on! The update last week was a big one - equivalent of a service pack I guess; it took a good while to install. It is frustrating....!

Re: Confessions of a Citroholic
New rear pads and discs fitted to the C4 yesterday - all pads were thin, but the inner one on the NS was well down into the metal, no wonder it was noisy - at least we have had our money's worth out of them!! No real drama with the bolts this time, I was able to get them all out and re-use.
Got the new Eolys bag to fit to the C4 today, and will see if I can code the injectors while I have the Lexia on to re-set the counter.
307 running OK despite the dampening the fusebox got!!
