I'll be most interested to hear how you get on with it...
I had the same issue with a Nissan Leaf in a car park last week. Nearly took my door off as it sidled up to me silently!
Two got away today..............the first a two-tone, (what else) Vauxhall Cresta in lemon and white, and the second was a drive past.....that looks like a xantia estate......reverse back.......no its an Audi moment.
Must remember to go to specsavers...
The Audi could well have been one of these, as they occasionally say round these parts "looks nowt like a Xantia man!".

Thats the type of thing , they should all have a comprehensive "juke box" of sounds to amuse and entertain!
I thought the sounds of a Lancaster starting up, could cause a reasonable stir if activated by pushing the start button on an electric vehicle. something like the first couple of minutes of this...including the prelude of the birdsong to build the anticipation, and a bit of false "smoke" from the exhaust as it fires.
Can you imagine the looks you would get if an electric car had the sound of the famous Vulcan Howl?

When I lived in Sussex I used to be a member of 'The Kent and East Sussex Railway'. I remember one of the articles about when they were trying to evaluate the railway after year of neglect and abandonment (after the society had been formed). The only available working engine was a little shunter with a vertical boiler, and the only fuel was chunks of wood. This made it sound very impressive, and spat columns of sparks from the smokestack. That evening people whose gardens backed onto the line came rushing out of their houses, convinced there was an A4 Pacific hurtling down the line. They were slightly disappointed when, at 5MPH, the little shunter trundled by. Mind you, they did get to have more impressive locomotives go by later on down the years.

I'd like it to sound like a an HST Train with the old Paxman Valenta engines...
What, like the Aberdeen Train leaving from Newcastle on 2nd March 2007?
Wow! yes! Exactly that... The wail of the Paxman Valenta turbo on full chat is just magical... All HSTs have now been re-engined and have lost that lovely sound Only the prototype still has the original engine..

from wiki
In April 2014 the European Parliament approved the legislation that requires the Acoustic Vehicle Alerting Systems (AVAS), which is mandatory for all new electric and hybrid electric vehicles. The new rule established a transitional period of 5 years to comply with the regulation.
"the sound to be generated by the AVAS should be a continuous sound that provides information to the pedestrians and vulnerable road users of a vehicle in operation. The sound should be easily indicative of vehicle behaviour and should sound similar to the sound of a vehicle of the same category equipped with an internal combustion engine."
Looks like the major players wont be taking up my idea of a comprehensive "juke box" of sounds to amuse and entertain, and are going to take some persuading to incorporate Jim's Paxman Valentas , Lancaster Bombers, or Vulcans as they fall outside a "vehicle of the same category"!
