DHallworth wrote:I spoke to Jamie at SP Tuning on the phone about this problem in great detail the other day. He says that the problem with blocking it off is that it does pressurise the crank case and he's seen people with a lot of problems from doing that.
Is he saying that the other PCV path is inadequate to ventilate the crankcase?

And how did BMW re-engineer the 200 HP version of the engine (with only a single PCV path) to avoid crankcase pressurisation problems?

There is also anecdotal evidence that the 200 HP version is much less susceptible to carbon accumulation.

I'm not sure. I didn't really go into detail on the 200bhp engine I'm afraid.

His advice on our THP175 was just to leave it as intended and then deal with the carbonisation as it crops up.

There's a huge amount of information about this over on the DS3Club website.

The 207 went to a local BMW Specialist in Glasgow yesterday to have the walnut blasting done. He released the inlet manifold and used a borescope to get a look at the back of the valves and took a picture of them using his phone. The valves are in one hell of a state and are massively carbon'd up.

Unfortunately the picture wasn't that good so I didn't bother asking him for a copy of it. The next problem was his machine wouldn't fit the car as the engine is to far back on the 207 when compared with the Mini.

Jamie @ SP Tuning who does these on Citroen's and Peugoet's has had to modify his tool to suit the PSA stuff so it's booked in with him in Hinckley on Friday next week. Fingers crossed we can then put an end to this completely. [-o<

Well, one more sleep!

I can't get the time off work unfortunately so Andrew is heading for Hinckley tonight and taking the car to SP tuning tomorrow morning. Hopefully this will put an end to the whole not running right/underpowered saga that's been going on.

Once this is sorted I'm going to go and have words with the Workshop Foreman and Master Tech in Glasgow as they swore blind that the car was OK when the timing chain had stretched, and swore blind that it was making fine power as well.

We authorised them to spend a couple of hours on it but all they did was plug Peugeot Planet into it and tell us all was good. It would only have taken them 30 minutes to check the timing. It really makes you fed up!

Well, the car had the walnut blasting done today!

It was rolling loaded at 141bhp before the blasting, after the blasting was completed it was rolling roaded again at 162bhp!

So, just through decoking it the horse power jumped by 21bhp!

There's a solenoid valve on the intake manifold that's leaking. Apparently it's used to divert fumes back into the engine so that they're burnt off, Jame @ SP Tuning today asked my brother if he gets a "Woosh" when he opens the fuel cap, when he said he does Jamie advised him this solenoid will be stuck as it's pressurising the tank rather then letting it back into the inlet. It's quite common for this to account for 10bhp as well.

I've not driven it yet but I've been told that it's driving like a totally different car, once we've replaced this solenoid valve it's going back to EcoTune in Hillington to have it's remap applied again and it'll be in the region of 215bhp!

Considering before we had the chain or anything done it was at slightly less then 140bhp, and it'll be at 215bhp when finished it should be like a rocket!!

Here's a description of that valve...

Turns out if looses boost pressure when the valve sticks and effectively boosts the fuel tank lol!

Well we can finally close this once and for all now.

We fitted that new valve to the car last night and the difference was instantly noticeable. It pulled better when accelerating. This was confirmed today when the car was on the rolling road again. In standard form it made 173.6bhp, Peugeot claim standard to be 175bhp so it's near as dammit.

It was remapped this afternoon and is now producing 205bhp so the car absolutely flies!

The only thing they commented on when it was on the rolling road was that the turbo intake pipe was collapsing at full boost. Apparently it's quite common as the cars get older and the rubber quality deteriorates. There's some sort of sensor in the pipe so it's about £48 unfortunately, but in the grand scale of things it's not much!

So, to summarise, this car has had the timing chain and tensioners all changed, the high pressure fuel pump, the catalytic convertor, it's been decoked due to excessive carbon build up, turbo valves replaced, and now the turbo inlet pipe has been changed. All of this work has been required, not done in preventative maintenance, and it's all been needed at 65k miles!

I'm going to Peugeot in Glasgow tomorrow for an MOT so I'll be having words with the master tech and workshop foreman who told us "you don't know what you're talking about, 140bhp is normal on these cars" as I'm now armed with a rolling road print out showing it making near as dammit 175bhp.

It really is disappointing when you need to go outside the dealer network, do over 1000 miles travelling to independent specialists, all of which was just to get a standard production car running properly.

A big thank you goes to BL Auto's for doing the timing chain for us, and another thanks to Jamie @ SP Tuning in Hinckley who appears to be the only person in the UK who has the tooling to do the walnut blasting on the PSA engined cars.

Well done David, you've had quite a journey. Should be better now with 205 horses pulling you along.

It was interesting Jim.

I picked up the new boost hose today from the dealer, the new one is rock solid in comparison to the old one. The old one you can easily squeeze and deform between your thumb and forefinger. The new one is rigid in comparison. The other night the EML came on when at high revs and the fault code was a lack of boost pressure. Every time you went near peak power in 3rd gear it would flag it with the same fault code. The new pipe appears to have totally solved that.

With 205bhp it really is a very entertaining little car to throw about. :) Fingers crossed it keeps working now as there's a lot of money been spent on the car.

I'll bet it's probably one of the most sorted 207 GTI's out there now after everything that's been done!

Dhallworth hello i got a similar problem on my rcz, last problem you described low boost error. which new boost hose you bought? the one from the induction box to the turbo or the tube from turbo to intercooler? i saw that my induction tube from air box to turbo is fractured a bit does it leak and gives me that error when iam on high boost? thank you

We replaced the pipe that goes from the air box to the turbo charger. From memory it was about £50. There's a little electrical connection that goes onto the pipe.

If you've got a split on a pipe that's visible, start by changing it. Start with the simple things first. Hopefully you'll have a lot less hassle with yours then we did with ours!!
