Xantia Injection Fuse blowing

Post by soufle »

Hi, I've just taken on a Xantia 97 Turbo CT manual, the previous owner gave up as there is no one to service it around here, and I fear some years of no maintenance have done the old girl little good.

They ditched it because the F7 injection 5A fuse kept blowing. Now I know a bit about old D's but this is all a bit more complicated isn't it?

The injection relay is clicking and the fuse goes every time on start. Whacked a 30A in to nurse it into shed off trailer, I have had advice that there is a short which is most likely due to front end damage but the loom looks pretty good. I've also been advised to get onto it in the dark and have a few bods stare intensely around the bay looking for flashes! So without any diagnostic tools (which Lexia is the correct one to buy and can I scam it onto IOS (I doubt it) and where can I lay my hands on some wiring pdf's for this model, tried opening one members links from a similar thread and server could't locate it.

Where do I start? I am convinced it is something very simple! of course....

Cheers

Steven

ps are RHD front LHM return octopuses available and where to buy one if I decide to go mad enough to try and install one?

Are you sure that F7 is supposed to be 5A? I pretty sure that on a Mk1 V6, F7 is 20A or 25A because it takes all the injector drive current and ignition coil current. I don't have any Xantia documentation here so can't check.

I don't think that Mk1 Xantia wiring PDFs are generally available anywhere, but there maybe someone on here with a printed copy they could scan.

Thanks, Yes I'll check that! The number 7 is going and in the booklet, my only source of info at present labeled as 5A... hmmm

It's a 4 cylinder turbo motor btw.

Just looked up on google, this is what I'm looking at albeit English version.

Steven,

A quick check of the BOL and fuse 7 in engine comp is 5 amp for fuel injection up to 1998 and it is 20 amp thereafter.

I have the wiring diagrams but It will take a bit to search the relevent one out

Steven,

The TCT injection circuits and harness diagrams are in this thread:

http://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/v ... 53#p277853" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I've just repaired the broken links to the diagrams within it..

Hope that helps...

Check the publication date of your handbook. I have a feeling that the fuse layout changed around 1996.

Could someone with a TCT / Activa check the rating of F7 in the engine box?

That would certainly account for the premature demise of 5A fuses! I hope it solves the problem.

well I'll give a 20 a whirl then! cheers guys. Now I just have to sort the return octopus I upset when I replaced an o ring on the hydraulic pump which caused massive LHM spillage that resulted in me attacking the resevoir filters after I noticed a certain green liquid was BROWN... then onto the rams, boots are completely shagged. This poor car has been owned by academics with little appreciation of what a Xantia needs these days. T.L.C.

And I thought my DSpecial was moody....

The Activa is a TCT with the extra anti-roll suspension components, the engine and electrics should be identical.

In RHD, all TCT hatchbacks were I think Activas, and all TCT estates were just TCTs.
