Thank you guys, It's nice to help and I also got lots of tips from this forum
rasputyn, before 'butchering' the rear sensor, measure the resistance also from the ABS sensor connector (see pic below, similar in MK1 ).
You can remove front sensor in one piece, chances are ~ 50% but rear sensor chances are only ~ 5%

Nice post... I need to do a load of checks on my v6. Apparently both front sensors think the car is dooing 56kph on the near side wheel and 94kph on the offside even though shes in the air in bits.... So i dont know if the ecu is seeing the sensors or not...
As for sensor removal... Front sensors are 100% removable in one piece thanks to the c type orface they sit in... As for rears. Whats the harm as they are bolted in, in changing the O Orface they go through to a u type with a grinder..... Theres no reason for an o section as the bolt will secure it tightly. !!!! ???

Re: Xantia Rear ABS Sensor Renewal
Hello all,
Thanks to this forum I found that my front left sensor had failed. Swapped it out, switched on the ignition, and the ABS light was STILL on! Sprayed on proper contact cleaner, NO Change! As it was getting dark I had to close up and head for home. 100 yards later the light went out! It would seem that the ABS ECU has to see the sensor and then know that it works before it is ready to accept it. Got home, switched off the engine, waited a few seconds and turned on the ignition. ABS light went out a few seconds later! Yay, thank god (and this forum) for that. Now all I have to do is fix a few other things and I will have a good Xantia.

Speaking from my experience (several experiments ),
actually it is not the distance but the speed.
With the new sensor static sensor reading might be fine
but it must also give healthy result when the the car goes
over the threshold speed. This critical speed is 20 km/h.
I guess the equivalent value can be seen in below pic:

Re: Xantia Rear ABS Sensor Renewal
Well.. l learnt a trick. Rear sensors are over housed!! An O house plus a 10mm bolt! Fronts dont so why should rears
so.. caliper off.. disc off and then with a dremmal and mini grinding disc cut the top off the O house to make it an C house facing upwards.. job done!! No issues again swapping etc. The cup holds it in place the bolt secures it properly..

Re: Xantia Rear ABS Sensor Renewal
The rear abs sensor sits in a house ontop of the arm through an O orface mount.
Front sensors are in a C type orface and there fore easy to remove.
after removing the rear disc and caliper and you can see the sensor.. you can safely cut away the top of the O house and the sensor can be removed and replaced easyilly. A benefit when needing to swap a working sensor from one arm to another for what ever reason.

Re: Xantia Rear ABS Sensor Renewal
It should also make it easier to replace the rear arm bearings.

Re: Xantia Rear ABS Sensor Renewal
The rear sensor mount is a brilliant piece of lateral thinking. Obvious really - once someone has thought of it!
