I-Spy Classic Cars/Bikes-What have you spotted?

As we get out and about there's a few more classic cars on the road at this time of year. "Classics" are very much in the eye of the beholder, well evidenced in the current edition of I-Spy Classic Cars which has 120 selections including Morris Marina, Austin Allegro, Ford Sierra.



Here's my starter for 10 spotted in Manchester, and one of the early whatsthhisthens?

Scores me 25 points as well

This sporty 2+2 seater car offered as a coupe and a convertible, has striking lines from the Italian design house of Ghia, although the bodies were built in the high quality workshops of Germany's Karmann coachbuilding company. Yet under these fine clothes, the car is pure VW Beetle

...and I get 10 points for this at Hawkshead Brewery Staveley nr Kendal.

From I spy Classic Cars
The MGB comes in two forms, as a two-seater open top roadster, and an attractive two-seater GT coupe featuring a tailgate rear door. The power unit was always a 1.8-litre four cylinder engine, although 2600 examples were built with a 3.5 litre V8, turning it into a 120 mph car. If you see one with bulky black rubber bumpers then its a post 1974 example.

Talking of Hawkshead Brewery (don't be fooled-its not in Hawkshead any more but at Staveley nr Kendal) it does fall into the category of a nice place to stop off at.



Occasionally you may get a bit of extra froth on your "Windermere Pale" when new staff are in the early stages of their training

What classics have I seen today? Renault 16, Peugeot 405 Mi16, Peugeot 605 facelift, Xantia break... Couple of Fuegos in recent weeks, too.

well the Renault 16 scores 10 points in the I-spy classic cars book

The Renault 1.5 or 1.6 litre 16 was the world's first large family car with a hatchback tailgate and rear seats that fold to increase luggage space. Look inside and you'll see the gearlever is mounted on the steering column, instead of on the floor, to increase front legroom.

Like a Dee, they've got an almost flat cabin floor and the engine is mounted behind the front axle, with gearbox forward to under the radiator.

Couple of Fuegos in recent weeks, too.

The Fuego didn't make the cut for I spy Classic Cars, but an increasingly rare spot, and well worthy of a few points

The Turbo apparently wasn't too shy in declaring to the world that it was the turbo version. Very very rare, only 4 licenced in the UK apparently so spot a Renault Fuego Turbo "on the road" with a picture and 1000 points are yours

I wouldn't think there are many Dauphins left either, most were falling apart in the first few years.

Plenty here, and more Juvaquatres than you would ever believe - from superb to rotten.

I don't think you have quite the corrosive weather that we do here.

It's the salt, not the weather - which mostly does it - look at France, where they don't salt much at all.
