Re: Whatsthisthen?
Seeing as there are very few of these left, and even less if any in the UK the odd helpful hint may be in order.
for the forensic picture analyser the model name is above the grille, and the grille itself is characteristic of the marque.
Seeing as this is French Car Chat one of the founding fathers of the manufacturer in the early days was French the same one responsible for this well loved vehicle
regards Neil

Re: Whatsthisthen?
I would go for a Volkswagen Schwimwagen as a first guess but not that confident. The smooth sides rule out many of the small amphibious vehicles I have discovered so far.

Re: Whatsthisthen?
Still attempting to come up with an answer to the amphibious car, nothing very close yet. Its the smooth lines, the recessed lights I am thinking quite a rarity and a one-off.
Came across this which to me looks a bit like a DS but is in fact a WWII german vehicle

Just to clear up the van... there's not many left but this gives it away
Its quite an appropriate combination for lovers of Shakespeare, or even Shakespeare's lovers because its powered by a Guilietta twin cam engine!
So good they named it twice
Its an Alfa Romeo Romeo

Re: Whatsthisthen?
Tracked down the amphibious vehicle. quite a rarity only about 3 preserved examples left. Its German
and is known as a Trippel SG6 Schwimwagen
Here's one of them:-
and another
Hanns Trippel (1908-2001) had a lifelong passion for amphibious vehicles you can see some of them here from the Amphiclopedia from 1932 onwards.
Here's one of his later designs

Re: Whatsthisthen?
Very probably Malcolm, although according to the "Amphicopedia"
It was not success all the way thoughTrippel SG 6 (1937 1938)
Round looking model with doors (also with hard top)
With a hard top on she sailed in September 1938 with Hannes at the helm from Naples to the Island Caprie.
regards NeilHannes Trippel made many amphibians.
Starting in 1932 with a front wheel drive racing car.
The same car was made amphibious somewhere between 1932 and 1934 by making the drive shafts water tight.
Water propulsion was by a small propeller at the rear.
The official presentation was on 15 September 1934.
On that day it sank in 8 meter deep water.

Re: Whatsthisthen?
Well can't let the old whatsthisthen? thread disappear into the obscurity of page 2 of French car chat so here's a new one.
Spotted one in Newcastle and thought it must be someone messing about for a laugh.
but no its genuine, so
Whatsthisthen?

Re: Whatsthisthen?
Spot on james, according to the Autocar review I dug out £30 Grand's worth as well, and an Aston Martin that takes more than 10 seconds to get to 60mph!Hell Razor5543 wrote:Aston Martin Cygnet? Otherwise known as the Toyota iQ Super Special!
Supposedly marketed to already converted AM owners, who want something smaller to occasionally to potter about, and park more easily in the city.
