1.9 citroen TD engine in a megane 1.9?

Unread post by Jimech »

Hi,
Does anyone know if it is possible to put a 1.9 TD citroen engine into a 1.9 d megane. I have a complete accident damaged zx TD that runs, and a 1.9 d megane with a broken engine - cam belt snapped. I had therefore thought I could put the whole engine and gearbox from the zx into the megane? Any ideas on compatibilty, mounting points, drive shafts etc?
Or
Anyone know of a 1.9 D engine suitable for the megane, N reg. I'm about 3 miles from mildenhall in suffolk?
Many Thanks

Sounds like a very interesting project but I can see many problems ahead.
What are the actual engine models (f8Q XUD etc)? The drive shafts are likely to be a big obstacle. Citroen likely to have an intermediate shaft and Renault not.
If the Megane has an f8Q engine, it is the same as in Clio, Kangoo etc so it would be a far better idea to sell off the Citroen (Peugeot?) engine and gearbox complete and get a Renault engine with the proceeds. I can only compare with my Peugeot 205 and Kangoo which would be quite a job to interchange engines. Could be fun though!

I agree with beezer. Easier just to sell the Citroen stuff and stick with the Renault engine for your motor. It's just too much messing about with the welder for engine mounts, the grinder for extra engine room amd machining for drive shafts etc.

It was just a thought coz they're both sat there. Keeping my eye out for a 1.9 d renault engine. I have found one in a renault 21, with 155k. Its a 1992 model, and the megane N reg. Would these be compatible, and how near is 155k to the end of the engines life?

The lifespan of diesel engines varies enormously, depending on what kind of treatment they've had. The 21's engine may not be original anyway, it could have done half that mileage or, as will probably be the case if you put it in the Mégane, double the indicated mileage. You'll just have to check everything you can and decide whether it's clapped out or not.
I think it will fit, The 19 and 21 share the same engine and the Mégane is just a facelifted 19. If it looks the same it will be the same, you might have to transfer some ancillaries but probably not.
Use the high-ish mileage as a negotiating lever to try an beat the price down a bit. I may be out of touch but I'd be reluctant to pay much over £100 for one of those engines- they're quite old and not that hard to find.

You will find that the F8Q (R19 and R21) and F9Q fitted to the Megane differ as the megane fuel pump/diesel pump is coded and will not work without the information from the fuse box (BIC) inside the car, you would have to swop the pump and they are a swine to do. Best get an engine from a Megane and swop the pumps as there are alsorts of differences.
Hope this helps.
