Yes I like that one too......I like the colourful old pumps.

It is Colyford Filling Station, East Devon

The full list of the 13 sites awarded Grade II listed status with a bit of info on each is here

Here's another nice pair of motoring-related architecture examples, this time with a bit of a French Connection

and the Peugeot Garage at Beckenham is also quite striking

This is a nice little account of the history of Colyford Petrol Station (to 2006 anyway) Apparently Aircraftsman Shaw was a regular visitor to top up his Brough Superior.

Image

"This photograph taken early in 1930 showing the site, was how it would have appeared when Aircraftsman Shaw, more well known as Lawrence of Arabia frequently purchased his petrol for his Brough Superior Motorcycle at the filling station, on his journeys from his home Cloud Hill near Bovington Camp in Dorset to his Royal Airforce posting at Mountbatten at Plymouth."

In 2013 the owner sold off the contents of the Motoring Memories museum, associated with the Colyford Filling Station

NEW!!! Whatsthisthen?

Unread post by NewcastleFalcon »

After quite a drought of interesting car spots what should come along today but

THIS!!!

Image

Now had I been driving 78 years ago, this vehicle would have been brand new but that's as much of a clue as I'm giving at this stage.

Often this type of view is the best you get, but the autotrader vehicle checker is pretty good with the ID if you get close enough to get the number plate.

Quite a rarity I think,

Pints on offer for an id and a bit of info on the breed

It wasn't intentional, but surprisingly there is a tenuous link with the Colyford Filling Station...

There's more to come if it proves too difficult

You can usually get a rear-end view quite discreetly

Poking a camera at the driver when you pull alongside is less so, and a full frontal is out of the question!

The particular vehicle I spotted ( on the A1 in Northumberland) appears on the "History of Cars" page of the Owners Club website.

There is also a connection with this:-

Not a Riley or a Daimler, very much assembled in Britain, and probably not too far away from you Mike!
