Drop links

Post by RichardW »

Have had to do drop links on both the Xantia and the C4 Pic recently (well the C4 still to go on, but they're waiting in the garage!). Aftermarket ones have a bad reputation - generally and personally - I've had plenty that knocked out of the box, and failed catastrophically in a short time. OTOH Citroen want £35 a side for the Xantia  (mind you the original NS link lasted 154k...!). So I found some Meyle links on e-bay for the C4 - they are listed as heavy duty, and supposedly have a 4 year warranty, and still reasonable priced, so I have given those a go. The supplier http://carpartscentreuk.co.uk/ lists the earlier type on e-bay (probably not the very early ones!), but not the later (2 x 90 joints) ones - and the on-line catalogue is next to useless unless you have the OE part number. However, dropped them a mail, and they had them in stock (£29 a pair) - ordered them early afternoon, on the 23rd, and they arrived Christmas eve in the morning!

I'll update the post to let you know if they live up to the billing!

For what its worth the Lemforder droplinks I fitted nearly two years ago show no signs of wear or rattle, although they've only done 8000 miles so far. Can't remember where I purchased them from though!

Moog, Lemforder, or even Febi Bilstein often outlive the original components on several makes and models.

The Lemforder ones on the Berlingo are knackered after 18k miles in 18 months.

It's worn the drop links out before the tyres!

It has been rumoured that some of their branded parts (I.e. Lemforder) are just cheapo Chinese copies in branded boxes.
