Hi guys. Ive been around here for a while now, good some good advice when I had a C5 a few years ago. Had a Pug 107 for last 2 years, so was thinking I was a bit of an imposter, cos it's not really French, well the badge on the bonnet maybe is! I've made a deal to swap it for a C4vts, coming over from Belfast on Saturday. I'm saying deal, I mean swap, a 2009 bug with 51k on clock for a 2007 C4vts 2.0 16v 180 with 50k on clock, on Irish plate. Folk will think I'm loaded and called Leslie! I'm looking forward to getting it, I've loved the bug, but it was bought for doing 90 miles a day commuting, and due to back problems haven't worked since July, and only done 4000 miles in that time, so I thought since petrol costs don't matter so much I might as well have a bit of poke. The only C4 I have driven id a 1.6hdi with the egs box. This is what I was going to go for until I drove it. Engine had enough go, but what an unresponsive and slow devil of a gearbox. Then thought about a 1.6hdi manual and decided that as I don't do many miles anymore I wouldn't take the chance of turbo failure and all the dpf and Eolys rubbish. Then I was gonna do a deal with Franklin for his red leob, but distance was a little bit too far. So when I saw this vts advertsed on the bay, I contacted the guy and it turns out he was selling to buy a 107 or C1 for daughter to learn in. A few txts and phone calls later, deal done, and he's getting ferry, I'm driving 200 miles, then swap. I'm happy, so is he. I might be able to overtake lorries now
The 107 is a brilliant little car, for what is really an extremely basic city car. Graet little 1.0 3 cyl engine which thrives on revs, yet still returns amazing economy. It's got bags of character and great fun to fling about (slowly) all over the place. With it's skinny bike tyres can get to its limits no problem and have fantastic fun whilst doing it, and keep your licence clean. I will miss it.
How did I get into french cars? I have no idea. My dad was a confirmed vauxhall man, had loads of victors. The 1st car I remember him having was a victor 101, white with a red roof, reg number BSE 365C. He then had a succession of victors, but then defected to BL with a Princess 2.2 HLS, 1977, reg TSE 599R, with a radio

This is what I learned to drive in. I thought it was great. Big car, big comfy velour seats, seriously comfortable hydragas suspension. Actually not that much different really to my own C5 I sold 2 years ago. My own first car was french, a Simca 1301 inherited from an uncle, not very old, I got it through an mot with a rotten boot floor covered by cardboard and the 1980 equivalent of Duck tape

When it died then bought an allagro 1.1, because the reg no was BSE365S and reminded me of my dads victor. Another rust bucket, hydrogas suspension again, gave a cracking ride and could show up the cortinas and escorts of the day up in the corners. Then started my vauxhall years, dad had sold the wedge and got a mk1 astra, When he changed it, I bought it was only 1.5 years old and 5000 miles. Loved it and followed on with another mk1 astra, then cavalier then manta, then came my leyland days, maestro, montego, rover 216, rover 3500sdi, yes I went back in years between the two rovers. Couldnt keep the v8 in fuel, or body filler and paint for that matter, Sold it, renault 18 then ford mondeo. Had 3 kids by this time, people carrer needed cue a galaxy v6. Again fuel was an issue, changed for pug 806 1.9td. My first diesel and I loved it. The turbo whistle going up the road to our house was addictive! Then picasso hdi, then wife tok off with a mate, sorry ex mate with a sore face! Pic had to go, biught a zx 1.8 as a stop gap. It broke bid time then I did a fiat spell, with two puntos and a stilo, them met another woman who had kids and went for the ulysse jtd. It went for the C5, 2.2hdi, and then the pug 107 which is bang up to date.
Also had loads of other cars along the line, we always had two cars, one each. The ones listed have been our main car. Others were changed more regularly, I used to buy a bucket from auctions, or the round the back trade-ins at dealers, clean them up, fix them, run for a few months then sell, usually for more than I paid. I cant remember all of them, astras, corsa renault 5 and clio, cit ax and saxo, pug 106, audi A4, merc vito, c-class, mondeo, focus, seat ibiza and leon, but stopped doing that due to work and she had a 206 and now the current MINI. Me and her splitting at the mo, the house is sold and flat rented, 2xmarried, 2nd divorce soo, and I wont have to suffer the MINI again. It's been the most unreliable car I have ever owned ( actually don't own it thank god) Its well named as BINI, and as far as I am concerned it can go to a bin with her inside it
That's enough for now, I'll get pics up of the 107 when I can figure out how to, and of the C4 when it arrives
