CX Turbo pipes

Unread post by Stormrage »

Hi all, fairly new here but hoping I can pick your brains....

A few months ago I acquired a CX 25 GTI Turbo 2, and I must say it is a real credit to it's previous owner!

Long story short there was a massive loss in power last week (followed by some not very fun kangarooing!) which turned out to be a turbo hose that has decided to give up the ghost and split most dramatically. My local Citroen Garage being the epic people they are (Woodlinkin Citroen Centre just incase any of you are in the East Mids) have loaned me the turbo pipe from their CX (they aren't sure whether theirs is a viable repair at the moment, if they decide it is they will want it back) but this leaves me needing to find a new one. I have seen CXs such as CGAT (I think that's right) which appear to have had custom pipes fitted, anyone have any experience of buying these? Any companies that you can recommend?

There is also a Bosch Valve of some description on the turbo hose (sorry to be vague, but I am unsure if this is a bypass valve or perhaps the anti-pulsation valve mentioned in the Haynes Manual, or something else entirely) which I will also need to source as this had been swapped out for a dump valve by the previous owner.

Thanks for any help or suggestions :)

Welcome along to the forum Ash and excellent choice of a CX GTi Turbo 2 - out of interest which one is it and have you any pics? Most of them are know to us "anoraks"! :-D

I'm sure Neil that owns CGAT will be around soon to tell you what he's got, however I suspect he's custom made his due to the modifications that he's carried out. I reckon you'll be able to find a replacement as well as the Bosch Recirculation Dump Valve that you need too.

I can have a look in the stores to see what there is and I've got a feeling that there's definitely a Bosch Recirculation Dump Valve in there - not too sure about the Turbo hose though however can have a look at some point, might be the weekend now though...

If not I'm pretty sure I know who has got one...

Thanks a lot for the reply and the welcome! :D I was panicking slightly wondering where I would get the parts  so it's good to know they are still out there!

It is E300 GJF - as I said, a real credit to the previous owner! Originally I was after F379 MTF, a metallic blue CX 25 GTI Turbo 2 as that is the car I grew up in, but sadly I lost track of it a few years back. When I saw this one though I just thought, if anything can come close it's this! I've been that busy driving it that I haven't taken many pics yet, however when we get a good weekend I'll make it a priority!

Hi Stormrage

If? it's the same car I'm thinking it is I always suspected that pipe but could never find a leak :(

Best chance other than eBay for a pipe is Stan Platts, whom I have bought many CX parts from new & second hand : 01274 683 848

I have a couple of Bosch recirc dumps PM address and I shall send you one Gratus.

Ah yes, E300 from David on here! Nice car that one in a fab colour! One of three in the UK I know of in Cassis Nacre! Yours, a DTR Turbo 2 and a Prestige Turbo 2...

F379 MTF, eh? Well as I said we anoraks know most of them, and here it is...

...and another:

It's pictured here at the last CCC CX, XM and Xantia Rally (see thread here) and is in enthusiastic hands - I know the guy that owns it and over this winters it's going to be getting some more TLC - a nice car that. 8-)

Hi David! (I think you're the David I bought her from looking at your location, sorry if I'm wrong!) Good to see you on here :D Apart from the hose she has been running like a dream! I will get a pic of the split, it took the garage a while to find
I've been meaning to get in touch for your address again as I found an old MOT cert in amongst the CX's history for F776 RYF and thought if it's one of your current projects you may want it back :) I will PM you now thanks David.

Cheers,
Ash

Oh god! THE NOSTALGIA!!! lol! So good to see her again! :D Very jealous of whoever has her now! Everytime I wanted that car something stopped it, first it came up when we were buying the house, then when I had the very real threat of redundency hanging over me, then getting married  I have so many good memories of that car! Only negative memory is of a Rover ploughing into the back of us :| but the Rover came off worse! Coincidentally F379 also had a split turbo hose in almost the same place, my Dad patched it with some magic tape they used to use down the pit and it was still on there when it was on e-bay some 10 years later around 2006  Thank you very much for sharing those photos :D

I love the colour of E300 and everyone comments on it, definitely a very wise choice in the restoration David!

Hi, I've found nothing is off the shelf for these; it's all cobbled together ;) Working out what silicone hose bends you need and joining them together. Mine is nowhere near standard different bore and routing etc. The diaphragms give up in the recirc valve, could just block the intake side off and fit a twin piston dump valve, as these cars use airflow meters.

Thanks for the reply :) Is there any benefit to recirculating the turbo charged air as opposed to dumping it altogether? One or two folks I've discussed this with seem to think there is a benefit, but none of them have specific experience with a CX!
I have now, thanks to David, got a Bosch recirc valve so it is just a case of sourcing a pipe. At the moment it is looking like i'll have to splice something together  Does the different bore offer any advantage? Did you go larger or smaller?

Sorry for all the questions! :D

For a standard car, I'd retain the stanard size pipes. The hose set up is specific for my car :) You could do a bit of research on the net, and arrive at a conclusion that would best suit you regarding the choice of standard over a noisey dump valve.

I've managed to find a website that claims to be able to make a one off replacement pipe from the old one, here's the link in case anyone else is interested or needs it in the future...

http://www.viperperformance.co.uk/plain ... #one%20off" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I'm still trying to source one or find somewhere closer to home where I can go in and talk to them about it though before I go for that option as it does destroy the original in the process, which although useless as it is, is all I have to go on!
