Managed to find this thread:

http://www.mhhauto.com/Thread-Update-Of ... 02?page=53" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Its a bit hard to tell for sure as apparently English is not the first language of most of those in that thread, but the author of the patches that we rely on for diagbox to install and work ("scarymistake") is currently saying don't update to 6.26 via internet update. It looks like there is some sort of issue with internet updates to 6.26, so in the mean time I'm going back to 6.24 which seems to be the last version that works for me. (6.26 only came out a few weeks ago anyway, so its not like we're missing much, especially for older cars)

I just tested the Lexia on my Xantia tonight (before visiting Richard and his C4 Picasso tomorrow) to make sure its working after the re-install. I did an uninstall and reinstall from the DVD, updated to 6.22 from the DVD, then used internet update to go from 6.22 to 6.24 and its still working fine on the Xantia, so it looks like 6.24 via Internet update is safe but 6.26 is not.

Most likely 6.26 is going to require a patched standalone installer (like the 6.01 to 6.19 and 6.19 to 6.22 updaters on the DVD) so when I get time I'll see if I can locate one... in the meantime I'd recommend people stay at 6.24.

Unless you own one of the 2-3 brand new models added in 6.26 there's no particular hurry to update - if it aint broke, don't fix it!

Just a quick query guys. If you get into the cars computer history.........can it tell you if there has
ever been any baby gravy on the seats? Nah! bloody useless then. :-D

Thank God I still got a Land Rover with points and a feeler gauge. More fun plugging a puter into a modern car than driving the bloody things ?

Oh I don't know Lexi, working through a set of ECUs with a Lexia or ELIT can be very therapeutic I find. I was never a great fan of gapping points at the best of times... or doing tappets for that matter... Mainly on transverse BMC A series stuff

Some things that have been consigned to history have been so consigned for the good of mankind. Points and tappets are a good example!

Bashe (Chinese: ??; pinyin: b?shé; Wade–Giles: pa-she) was a python-like Chinese mythological giant snake that ate elephants.

If you're trying to update to 6.26 I suggest you give up, it doesn't seem compatible via Internet update. Does 6.24 work ok for you ?

Ever since the original IBM PC (with what became MS-DOS) appeared in the UK more than 30 years ago, I have spent far too much time trying to install and update software. Over time I have evolved the following to reduce the incidence of problems:

BE PATIENT - a lot of cock-ups are caused by not giving software/Windows enough time to complete a process

As per previous posts, DON'T UPDATE unless there's a compelling reason to do so (If it aint broke......)

If possible, get the authors' recommended procedure and follow it exactly (at least for your first attempt!).
Create a new restore point (if there isn't one for today)
Clean the registry (I have been using CCleaner for some years)
Reboot immediately before attempting each and every install/update (and wait for Windoze to completely start)
Disconnect from the Internet
Disable your AV software
Do the install/update following the author's procedure exactly
Reboot before attempting to check the new/updated software

After un-installing software, clean the registry and remove the software's folder (and contents) from the /Programs system folder, then reboot before doing anything else.

I don't know anything about Lexias or ECUs - all inventions of the foreign devils of the automotive industry - I deliberately sought out a Xantia without any electronics (apart from the inescapable ABS ECU which causes quite enough problems, thank you).

As an aside, I've got so fed up with Windoze bloatware that, for my own purposes, I've been using Ubuntu Linux exclusively for the last 3 months. Yesterday I fired up my old XP laptop to look for a 'lost' file (sphere table) - half-an-hour of pure frustration because I've got used to the speed of the 'new' laptop (in reality a s/h Thinkpad that was actually new in January 2008).
2012 Subaru Forester - capable but no magic carpet
2011 Grand C4 Picasso VTR+ 1.6HDi - not missed!
1995 Xantia Estate SX 1.9TD in Vert Vega "The Green Lady" - sadly missed
1998 Xantia 2.1 VXD Estate in Mauritius Blue - R.I.P. (terminal tin-worm)

Very good and wise advice Guy :-D

That's your best bit of advice though. Just a bloody shame Lexia won't run under it...

I only use my Lexia now if the subject matter under diagnosis is beyond the abilities of my ELIT.
