I really like what you have done with the tail end of that HDI David, it looks really nice debadged with smoked lights, very understated and clean.

I can't really take credit for that Dean, was like it when I bought it. So far I've done 20 miles in it, taking it to and from MOT but it's got to go as am being brutal during this clear out.

I bought it as the owner was going to scrap it, sent it straight for MOT and it passed first time after I explained Citroen suspension to the tester. I then drove it home. Am gonna change the water pump, timing belt and thermostat and then it'll probably be up for sale.

Well it's been a while since I did anything here...

A few things have changed since my last update in March...

I sold the green Xantia HDi and my Peugeot 406 HDi so I've got a little more space on the driveway now.

The green Series 1 24v XM that I've got advertised for sale has been getting a little use recently and I must say I'm really enjoying driving the ole girl at the moment. My Series 2 "Malaysian" XM went for it's MOT this morning too. I knew that she needed a new windscreen washer pump as the old one wasn't functioning. I swapped the pump over and tested it with just the electrical connection on it to ensure it was ok. Stupidly I just filled it with water and didn't check the washers were working so it failed the MOT as they weren't

Came home, took the scuttle off, took the washer pipe off and blew down it and instantly felt the obstruction in the pipe clear. Connected it all back up and she's working good as new.

Only other advisory was a tiny weep from the feed pipe going into the nearside front strut top.

Anyway, retest at 9.30am tomorrow and then she's got a 12 month ticket too Kinda gutted I can't get holiday for ICCCR but am thinking about trying to attend the CXM rally.

Got another 2 cars to go in the next couple of months... A Series 1 V6 Xantia with approx 50k miles on the clock and a 2003 Peugeot 307 Rapier with around 8 months MOT on it and 91k miles.

Well it looks like our Xantia HDi Exclusive has finally met it's end unfortunately.

My fiancé was sitting still at a set of traffic lights tonight when a woman in a 2010 Honda Civic carrying 6 people went straight into the back of her. The woman was driving wearing flip flops and claims that her shoe got stuck under the pedal and caused her to accelerate.

I reckon she was speeding when she hit the car and as it was over over loaded I don't think she was concentrating either. Unfortunately Cheryl was twisted picking something up off the floor in the back when she was hit so she's in agony tonight as well.

The back bumper on the car looks like it's been in a fight with an industrial shredder apparently, the tow bar has been shoved back and up into the bumper, the boot needs absolutely slammed for it to close and the boot floor is twisted.

In light of the above I am absolutely certain the the insurance company are going to write the car off.

At least SWMBO isn't badly hurt although I imagine she'll be tender and cranky in the morning. She's already showing me 407's and C5's.

Will get some pictures of the damage up when I can see it in daylight.

Really annoying as I've just changed a wheel bearing, bottom balljoint, intercooler, timing belt & tensioners and the water pump too.

Well we'll find out tomorrow what the final verdict in on the Xantia as the assessor is coming to have a look.

I had a look at the car and the damage is no where near as bad as Cheryl made it out to be on the phone! Although her and her gran are still suffering. Apparently it feels like having done a 12 hour workout in the gym. It's the lower back muscles that are tight and sore apparently. It seems to be an excuse for me always getting told to put the kettle on though!

There's a hole in the back bumper where the plate behind the tow ball hit it but other then that to look at there's no visible damage from a distance. Once up close you can see that the boot no longer quite lines up with the rear wings, it's been pulled down so that the wings stand proud of it.

The boot is also rubbing on the rear bumper when it's opened and closed. I've got a horrible feeling that when the assessor looks at it he'll write the car off but a big part of me feels sad as it's not "that" bad. I tried to have a look under the boot carpet but when I saw it wasn't as easy as just lifting the carpet I gave up.

Cheryl had decided that she wanted a new car before the Xantia was hit so this has given her the push to get something. I wanted her to get a V6 C5 but she wasn't for having it, she wanted a Diesel.

Eventually we settled on a lovely little 207 HDi GT. It's a September 2006 in silver with full leather, air con, auto lights and wipers, panoramic roof and iPod input. The only thing it doesn't have is cruise control which you can add for less then £30 and 10 minutes on Peugeot Planet. I test drove it this morning and was really impressed with it. It's the 110bhp 16v Diesel engine that's in it. It's so quiet in comparison to the 8v unit in the Xantia.

The ride is harder then the Xantia with it's low profile tyres and sports suspension but it's not as hard as the R32 that I had. All in all I was really impressed with the car when we took it for a drive! The average economy on the trip computer over the last 1500 odd miles was 63mpg too!

Well we picked up the 207 on Thursday and I must say that I'm really impressed with it!

One of the first things I did was add cruise control. The stalk cost less then £30 and a new steering column surround from Peugeot was £23 with the cut out for the cruise control stalk. 5 minutes on Peugeot Planet to tell the car that it had cruise control and we now have a working cruise set up.

On the motorway with the air conditioning on doing a steady 70mph it's averaging 58.4mpg. We've done just over 200 miles with it since we got it, some of which was fairly spirited driving down the back roads when I got my hands on it and the average is showing now at 54.8mpg, all of which has been with the air con switched on.

It's a nice little car to drive, and it grips really really well!

Only other job I've got to do with it so far is to route the cabling for the iPod input and switch it on in the settings.

That 207 does look very nice David They are a cracking looking little car, supposed to be quite refined and ride ok too.

I imagine the 1.6HDi goes well in it, the 1.4s look so slow in such a heavy car. If it handles and grips anything like my old 2.0HDi 206, it'll be pretty good to drive

Does that have a few options or is it in standard GT spec?

With C5s they have a outline on the back of the steering wheel column surround which is where you cut the grove for the cruise stalk. I thought that was a very good idea!

From what I can work out most of it is standard spec, the only thing that is optional is the full leather interior.

It does go well, to be honest it reminds me of driving my 306 2.0 HDi, handles well, grips the road well and was comfy with supportive seats.

Just need to decide what to do with the Xantia now. The damage really isn't bad to be honest, to look at the car it doesn't look bad but there is a crease in the boot floor.

Really don't want to let the insurance take the car though.
