Re: What is the correct courtesy light operation on a Xantia
Jim. According to my original owner's manual. F8 is a permanent feed fuse (park position). There is a fuse in it. It's not blown and this is NO power so that circuit is not working.
F23 is a permanent supply shunt (customer position - whatever THAT means!)
On Diagram 13.39 BoL, it shows F8 connected to F15 in some way - I assume that this must be wiring on the rear. I supplied power to F8 using a powerprobe and the internal lights did come on( from memory - tested so many things I have got mixed up on this point).
From what you're suggesting, there should be a fuse between F8 and F23 position or at least something to bridge the two fuse positions (or do you mean there is something on the rear of the panel which I cannot see ( a wire perhaps?)
Acoording to my owner's manual there is no position F16! Something else I need to check. That's interesting as my radio does not work with ignition off and I would like it to for the rare times I actually use it.

That's exactly what I mean Roger. Whop out whatever is in the F8 position and any fuse in the F23 position and bridge between F8 and F23 using a 30A fuse. That means plug the fuse in so that it's half way between F8 and F23, straddling the two positions...Rhothgar wrote: From what you're suggesting, there should be a fuse between F8 and F23 position or at least something to bridge the two fuse positions
That is the normal running position. It's the same on the S2 and I've just checked it on Rattiva. Can't check it on an S1 (my Activa as it's not here at the mo)
F1 is to the right and F16 is to the left on Rattiva. Setting your F1 and F16 like that should make the wireless work correctly...

Excellent Roger
I was just about to post this too, showing the fuse positions I was trying to describe...

That's strange you say 30A. There is a 10A currently in F8 position on mine.
Yours is the Australian fusebox as well. It looks upside down. I take it the 20A at the top if F1 and 16. NO! Just noticed the numbering.
Yours doesn't have a F16 either!! Or can I see little pins at the side of F1?

The Shunt (SH) is a solid bridge link that looks like a fuse but isn't. A 30A fuse makes a substitute shunt if you don't have the pukka thing...
It was how my camera decided to take it Roger.. Not an easy thing to photograph on a dark night...

F16 (20A) right at the bottom is in the left-hand position. F1 and F16 both have two possible positions and on F1 you can see the socket for the alternative (LH) position.Rhothgar wrote:Yours doesn't have a F16 either!! Or can I see little pins at the side of F1?

I've tried using a 30A but it isn't long enough to make the bridge. It is late and I was lying upside-down though. Maybe it will look different in the morning.

Never looked at a shunt in close detail but I'd not be surprised if it was a tad longer to prevent it being used as a substitue 'fuse' in another location where it could cause a lot of trouble if it was...Rhothgar wrote:I've tried using a 30A but it isn't long enough to make the bridge.
I'll check that later Roger.. Won't be just yet as I'm feeling very rough again this morning

It's alright, Jim, I'm going to jump back on service Citroen and take a look. Was on there most of last night checking part numbers.
Read some horror stories on the internet though where engines have refused to switch off without shunt be removed.
Hope you're feeling better soon, my friend.

Thanks Roger, I hope I am soon too.. Getting a bit fed up with it now
It's here:

No worries, if that happens, the pump has an emergency stop lever...Rhothgar wrote: Read some horror stories on the internet though where engines have refused to switch off without shunt be removed.

Yep, the shunt is a different size to a fuse.. It has wider spacing between the blades..
You could fabricate one by 'modifying' a 30A fuse to suit...

Halfords sell a Maxi Blade Fuse though the blades actually look wider. I've seen an 80A and a 100A. You don't happen to know the centre to centre dimension of the blades off top of your bonce, do you?

Re: What is the correct courtesy light operation on a Xantia
Cheers Xantidote.
I'll try and get a tape measure into my fusebox and measure the shunt centre to centre.
Thing is a Shunt Fuse from Citroen is £0.81 or £0.83. A Maxi-Blade from Halfords is £2.79!!! Think I'll buy from Citroen and buy two SPARES whilst I'm at it!!
Also, buying from Citroen takes the guesswork out of it all. One of those rare occasions where the main dealer is cheaper.

Oh dear!
Used a paper clip as a substitute for fuse. Courtesy lights come on and so did digital clock. Note use of past tense!!
Clock lights up now but no digits. Must have gone kaput when I removed paper clip.
Does anyone agree this was a stupid thing to do and that it probably has blown the clock?
