Toxic fume filter system warning light

Unread post by jacksun1987 »

I had to get rid of my red txd 1.7 bx. Its at bullwinkles

I have now got a renault Laguna 1.8 16 valve Exspression.

Its the toxic fume filter system warning light.
Which is next to the abs light It keeps flassing it does. Then it goes off. The car feel lumpy low powerd at times. At low revs. When its on tick over the engine rocks it does. As if its a old diesle engine. But its a 1.8 16 valve petrol.
Its still on warranty I bought it on Tuesday. Got 1 month left
I took it in they said they cant see anything. Unless the light stays on

Definitely as above. One faulty ignition coil. My Avantime does exactly the same when one starts to give up. It gradually gets worse, until the engine management light will stay on all the time. Only £25 each from GSF, but they should be paying for this.

Tip, don't buy pattern coils, they are crap and won't last 6 months. Go for OE coils or even better if you can afford it Renault Motorsport coils which are uber reliable.

Interesting. How much would one of those set you back?

I was told that the Sagem ignition coils in my Avantime are to be replaced with Valeo ones every time one goes unless I enjoy replacing them!

They're not cheap, £100 plus from memory. I lucked out and found a scrapper that had 4 fitted by the previous owner, i fitted them to my Laguna 1.6 16v and they are still going strong and providing slightly more power as well. :D

THANKS
yes it is the renault laguna ignition coils. Ive been on ebay they are 35 pound for a set of 4. I had it checked out and the garuage said the same thing as you.
I then phoned up the place where i got the car. He said hes only got 1 ignition coil. Then i said cant you get all of them. He said it will cost me more and you more. Its under warrinty. Its a 50 50 one. So i bet ill have to pay for half.
Why cant i just buy a car and have no of theses problerms with gauarges and warrentye s. Does my (-expletive removed-) head it it does. Ive had 3 cars now what ive had problerms with. Now it looks like this will be number 4 if im not carefull.

You don't need to buy all four. Buy one and just change the faulty one! It's easy to identify as the engine note will change considerably, and the car might even stall when the plug is removed to one that's working correctly.

When you've paid considerably more than the car is worth you should have got a fully comp warranty... for a year!
