Laguna Automatic Problem

Hi All
I am a newbie to this and am sending this on behalf of a friend (really)
He bought a Laguna 2.0 Auto this morning, unformtunately the automatic 'box only gives him reverse - no forward gears. Any ideas please? He cant take it back as he bought it "sold as seen" and didnt see it driving.

how did he manage to drive away with the car?
there will be a linkage between the gear lever and gearbox check to see if it moves properly .check that nothing is loose.
And if you are buying a car "AS Seen" have a very good look at it first and have a TEST DRIVE before you pay for it!

Daft question...any fluid in the box? Does beg the "how did he get it home" question, though...
