rear brakes locking up on my 1998 megane 1.6 sport

Unread post by spliffy »

my car seemed fine when i last used it then when i went to use it again the osr wheel was seized on i had to whack it off using a big chisel and hammer when it eventually came off the brake lining had come off im not sure whether the lining caused it to seize or by it has come off because it was seized is this a common problem if so what is the cause eg adusters cables cheers

At a guess, it probably pulled the lining off the shoe backing when you forced the drum off (I know you did not have a lot of choice)

Typically I'd guess it had seized on (handbrake posssibly)

New shoes, strip the adjusters / springs etc all down, ensure everything is free to move, rebuild. :)

Happened to my Clio 1.2, lining came away. I know it's not uncommon on the Clio, wouldn't be surpirsed if your megane had the same brakes.
