timing holes dont make sense!!! but sorted now cheers

hi all thanks for all your imput am right in asuming i need to lock off cam with no1 lobes facing up over the crank shaft im still a bit cloudy on iv followed the link for the xm formum and am i right asuming that i lock off crank via the fly wheel ignoring my crank pully (which is the one with the rubber)

you can lock via the flywheel so long as its not auto, the trouble is on the turbo it can be a little trickey to get to so i always pull the crank pulley off and lock from there so you dont have to desturb the starter motor.
is the crank and cam locked as per the pictures on the how to file and yet your numbers 1 and 4 pistons are at tdc? or are they all at half mast as they should be now?.

I don't know this engine but I wonder if it has the crank timing hole hidden behind the starter motor same as the 2.1 td models ? this allows a pin to pass through the engine casing and into the flywheel pulley to lock it all up with no doubts about it's timing, nice and easy with the starter removed or shoved sideways out of the way.

cheers for all your help i got hold of a pulley (solid type) 0ff 205gti my timing hole on my shock type pulley were a mile out put solid type on she fired straight up
