Renault Kangoo van starting problems....fuel I think?

Unread post by robzondrumz »

Hello,
Hope someone has some advice. My kangoo keeps turning over at start up and will not start till I pump the fuel primer. Sometimes takes a lot of pumping to get it started and sometimes starts straight away. I have changed the fuel filter, and can't see any leak in the hoses. Can anyone tell me what else it might be?

thanks in advance

Pump the primer as hard as you can for a few minutes then check for diesel leaks.
Guy at work with a 306 has had similar problems that turned out to be a leaking 'o'-ring at the base of the filter housing.

thanks.....was pumping for half an hour yesterday to get it started and no leaks in engine bay. Is there a way to bleed the fuel system? There seems to be a lot of air in pipes when I first start pumping the primer

If there is air in the pipes then there is definitely a leak somewhere.

If you can pressurise the fuel system with the primer pump then it should force some diesel out and show you where the leak is.

There should not be any bubbles there at all.

Yep, sounds like a leak in the fuel line. The fuel is probably running back to the tank when it's been sitting.

2 ways I've checked for leaks in the past:

Replace a section of hose with transparent line and then look for air bubbles. Replacing one section at a time, work your way backwards to find which component is leaking.

...or....

Fit a tyre valve to the end of the fuel line, and then put it under a bit of pressure with a foot pump or whatever. That should make the leak obvious. If you can get an electronic one with a pressure read out, then you can check that the fuel system holds it's pressure, then you know there are no leaks anywhere :D Obviously don't go mad with the PSI

Well i think you need to check your primer pump and check your fuels
