Conversion of 97 multi-point Megane to carburettor

Unread post by Faz »

Hi there,

I am trying to convert an R plate Megane, which originally had a 1.6 multipoint injected engine fitted, over to carburettor. I have fitted a carb/manifold, distributor and coil pack/ignition module from a 1.4 Renault 19 with the e engine, but the little git refuses to fire up properly.

I can get a spark on two out of the four outputs on the distributor cap, leading me to suspect that the timing is very wrong, possibly due to the flywheel being completely different between the two engines. I know from the fact that it backfires out of the carb that the spark is getting through to the engine, but the timing is out so that it does not run, regardless of how I put the leads.

Does anyone have any ideas or can anyone confirm if there are significant differences between the flywheels?

If there are differences, would a coil pack from a different engine have the appropriate timing set up?

Many thanks for your help.

Hi I have one question for you. Doyou intend to mot it ? If so, the carb will not do!!!
We are saddled with injection and electronics to comply with the emission regulations depending on the year and model.
Sadly it won't work or we'd all be doing it!

The emmisions test will be based on the engine fitted, not the car itself.
