I have Peugeot 508 2011 - at some point hade ABS fault, ESP fault, hill asist faults on a dash - disappeared on its own in a day. Appeared again after two three months - I have decided, that it is because of the battery, changed it and it disappeared again. For a week or two... Now ABS, ESP, Hill assist lights on and on top of that I am getting engine fault, gearbox fault light(with gearbox sometimes going to limp mode). At the same time spidometer don't show speed and mileage, rear parking sensors don't work. What can it be and where should I start?
Not sure if it is related, but abs/esp/hill assist faults first time appeared some time after brake pads change.

Hi
First thing I would speculate without a diagnostic is one of the wheel speed sensors has been damaged or the cable. The ESP system will disable all ESP functions if a problem is detected, which is why you are getting these issues - but also, as the systems on the gearbox and the engine ECU also share the data for the vehicle speed from the ESP system, it's not surprising you are getting these other messages.
Ideally it needs diagnostics with Diagbox and then if you get the specific fault codes, pop them up along with your VIN and we can advise further.
Given that you have had these issues when changing the pads, that is a potential cause where the sensor or connection has been damaged. But do get a diagnostic done first before changing parts.

Re: Christmas tree on dash
Your answer might save this car as I nearly gave up on it.
Went to garage - after scan they said that supply and protection unit is faulty(the one on a battery). Changed that part - made no difference whatsoever. I know that 6 fault codes are present and basically all of them say "lost communication/no communication with engine ECU/Abs or ESP etc" . Will know exact codes on Monday - will present them here with Vin number.

Re: Christmas tree on dash
Visited my mechanic, he said that after fuse box change he managed to get down to these faults :
B1003 00
U1209
U1802 81
Vin is VF3**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]
I have driven car home and it came up with usual ABS/ESP/Hill assist, Gearbox fault, Engine fault, also Speedo does not work and rear parking sensors dead.
Thinking to change ABS sensor - with a hope that it will get Speedo working and at clear abs/esp/hill assist faults.

Re: Christmas tree on dash
Ok, I think there is another issue. Your 'mechanic' may not be aware that on this vehicle the engine fusebox MUST be configured. It has configuration options that need to be checked and set for the vehicle to work correctly. That is likely why you are getting this first fault - as it is not configured!
B1003 00 is a general configuration fault. No further info available.
B1802 81 Vehicle speed information not valid fault (This will affect multiple systems from the dashboard, seat belts, lighting etc.)
U1209: Fault: absence of communication with the automatic gearbox ECU : Data invalid
So the absolute first thing I would do is to go and get the replacement engine fusebox correctly configured.
I can help with the options to be configured, but it is going to take me some time to go through your vehicle specifications and the configuration options and select the correct options for your vehicle, so will take me a few hours.

Re: Christmas tree on dash
Thank you for quick reply - much appreciated. Will try and find someone, who could configure fuse box - that will be No1 priority.
No2 will be abs sensor change - that should sort most of the lights on a dash.
My concern is last fault - that there is no communication with gearbox. Hopefully abs sensor will sort it...

Re: Christmas tree on dash
I wouldn't change any ABS sensors unless you have a fault code for them! That will potentially be a waste of money. Wait until the fusebox is correctly configured, then when that has been done, I would wait 10 minutes, then disconnect the battery following the BSI Reset / Battery Disconnect / Reconnect Procedure, then afterwards, check that everything is working. Go for a run in the car and then run another diagnostic to see which codes are ramaining (if any).
Here are the options for your vehicle. I have gone through all the options and removed those not relevant to save further confusion and incorrect choosing of options.
So basically every option here and the values I have set, are correct for your car's options:
Supply
Heating & Ventilation
Lighting & Signalling
Engine Compartment
Visibility
Others

Re: Christmas tree on dash
Fusebox has been reconfigured - no changes whatsoever. Garage representative says, that most likely problem is in abs pump as communication for the faults are going through it. These guys are specialising in Citroen and Peugeot, but previously it was them to say, that fuse box will solve a problem and gave me quoted £800 for it(baught second hand and got it fitted for £100).
Is it worth to give it a try and change abs pump?

Re: Christmas tree on dash
Unfortunately without detailed investigation there's nothing I can suggest, because you have CAN network comms faults. That could be communication on the CAN wiring or the BSI or another system like the ESP ECU.
The issue is the CAN network links all these systems so knowing if it is the CAN wiring itself somewhere or one of the main ECUs like the BSI, the ESP or the Engine ECU that is either itself faulty or is sending faulty data it is receiving....
If it was me, I would be taking it straight to the dealer for a proper check - they are likely to have the experience of this sort of thing and proper diagnostic tools for troubleshooting, as well as access to technical resources in France the indy won't have.
They also would of ripped you off on the fuse box in any case, as the engine fusebox from the dealer brand new is only £405, or £365 if the supplies and management protection unit inc. VAT. and I can't see them charging £400 to fit it.

That's the problem - no official dealership within 100 miles radius. Garage where I've been were the only ones who specialises in Peugeot/Citroen. Well, it is what it is - thank you for all your help. Probably will try to and replace abs pump,if it won't help - car will go to scrap and will be replaced with boring german product...
