Something changed?

Post by Paul-R »

Did something change in the structure of the forum overnight? I updated my Windows 8.1 and then this morning attempted to view the forum on my preferred browser IE11 (I know, I know. Don't nag). I couldn't get anything to come up at all and am now having to use Chrome to access the forum.

Nothing wrong with the Forum Paul. IE 11 has been dumped (even on Windows 10) since June 15, 2022. It is no longer supported and users were encouraged to move to Edge.

Didn't say there was anything wrong, just asked if anything had changed. I've been successfully using IE11 until yesterday.

Not going to happen! I am however considering Brave.

Just noting that IE 11 is at end of service life so will not get updated and will at some point fail to work properly with sites.

It is insecure and will probably cause rendering problems with web pages.

Looks a sensible option. Have a look at Opera and DuckDuckGo as well while you are deciding! :)

Marc, thanks for all this. I'm fully aware of IE11 and its lack of support but I've been grimly holding on using it until everything I normally access no longer works. There's just something about IE11 that I like. The way it displays, the colour coded tabs, the way files download, the way it doesn't impose viewing PDFs, the way properties displays when you right click, etc. I could go on!

Mick, I think DuckDuckGo is incorporated into Brave as the search engine. Or was it the other way round?

I've tried Opera, couldn't get on with it.

Honestly don't know but the DuckDuckGo search engine has been around a fair few years and I find it perfectly ok, so I would think that Brave is using it for searching. DDG has recently launched the full browser including their search and I am considering ousting the Opera in favour of that package but I'm a bit wary about all the eggs syndrome..... :-D

Brave does use DDG, as an option.
Brave is OK-ish.
I don't know about Chrome but have heard a lot of criticism lately. I used Chromium and if fell to pieces six months ago. Substituted Brave for it.

Brave and Vivaldi are all chromium based. I use Brave currently, Safari and Firefox if I have to.
