DS7 - Water in rear light

Post by TheBadger »

Washed my car at the weekend using a hose and noticed afterwards that some water had made its way into the passenger side rear light. I called the dealer and it's a known issue and the subject of a notice issued to dealers by DS. It's being replaced under warranty next week while I wait. A 30 minute job, apparently.

If anyone else has the same issue don't be slow to report it and get it fixed.

Our Ducato/Relay/Boxer has the same issue. I have drilled two small drain hole in the new Light units we fitted and used Vaseline on the electrical connectors. Water ingress into light units seems to be a perennial problem so look out for it.

I have 2 years warranty left so drilling is out of the question at present. This rear light cluster I understand is around 800 quid so you would like to think it was bomb proof lol!

Just had my high level rear brake light lens replaced under warranty due to water ingress (spider stress cracks where the rear washer jet protrudes) - they now keep these as 'stock items' my manager friend told me, so that tells you something.

Same problem, DS7 went for it's 1st MOT, examiner showed me the water collecting in corner of passenger side rear light, 3 year warranty running out next day so got on phone to DS dealership straight away, told me it was a common problem & would be fixed under warranty. Surely if this is such a common fault it should be a recall or a permanent remedy offered. Owners shouldn't have to think about drilling a drainage hole or be afraid to hose their car.

They won't bother for that unless it's safety related. They didn't even issue a recall for the C5 X7 steering rack debacle - many of whom are on their third rack.... including 2 original new ones in my case.

UPDATE. Phoned nearest DS aftersales repair centre (53 miles away in Fareham) They asked me to send some pics to them. They ordered the part which was on back order so came from France. Just under 2 weeks later was replaced in 20-30 mins no drama at all. Great service from Yeomans citroen Fareham!

Good result - and important you do this in my opinion, as taking it back may be a hassle, but at least they have a record of incidents, as they have to complete a form for warranty repairs and this gets fed back for future improvements.

DS dealership Weston Super Mare changed rear light under warranty, again admitted its a common problem, apparently the replacements being fitted have had the issue rectified. This is OK unless you are out of your warranty period & have to fork out £££££'s for a new one & the labour to fit.

And extra lucky if you're in the UK as we get 3 years warranty here - only 2 years in France....

Open the boot and check the level of water inside the rear light assembly. Drill a small hole inside the boot lid next to the rubber seal into the rear light assembly below the water level. The water will gush out. It then takes about one week to de-mist the lens.
