Interior Door Handle Plastics - Sctratched on Citroen C5

Post by Spanner123 »

I recently bought a Citroen C5 tourer exclusive 2.0 HDI 160 auto - X7 model

The exterior condition was fairly good but the interior was let down by the gold paint flaked of around all 4 interior door handles

I thought initially the answer was to just get 4 new interior door handles from Citroen ...but very expensive for 4 bits of plastic parts
and which they would not sell individually but as complete unit

Then next was try breakers ....but they would only sell 4 complete door cards which was expensive also as buying
more than needed & even then unsure of what you maybe getting

So decided only option was to carefully remove them off each attaching door handle using special plastic removing tool
.... and then using wife's nail polish remover & slightly abrasive cloth ....carefully rub away
all the remaining gold paint. This time consuming job took upto 1/2 hour for each handle.

Hard work done after preparing all 4 of them ....took down to my local garage man who for £30 offered to prep + spray them citroen gold & refit

Job now done & looks very good - probably only cost effective solution

I removed mine, cleaned the remnants of old coating off and painted with Hammerite. Came up reasonably well and has lasted a couple of years up to now.
Not as professional a finish as you will have but six quid for Hammerite and loads left over.

I had the same on my X7 with the same mativoire beige paint. I did them myself, removed them all, prepared and primed several times and respirated with some colour matched paint. I put loads of lacquer coats on and they are now better than the originals.
