Forum maintenance and reconfiguration

Post by xantia_v6 »

Over the next week or so I will be making some adjustments to the configuration of this server, and installing some application software updates.

There will be some brief disruptions to normal operation, but these should only last a few minutes. I will be carrying out this work between 7am and 4pm UK time.

As there are several different tasks and software packages involved, I can't give a specific timetable.

I am currently testing a change to the server configuration for this site, which should not have made any noticeable difference for normal users.

Please tell me if you see anything strange in the forum operation for the rest of today.

How abnormal does a user have to be to notice a difference? :rofl2:

An orderly queue from this disorderly rabble? You are asking a bit much, aren't you! :D

Back to topic

I will need to take the forum off-line for an hour or so tomorrow morning to test a new server configuration. I will probably start around 8:30 am.

I have made the main reconfiguration, which seems to have been successful, but I need to make some further tests and adjustments over the next few days. This may result in a occasional dropped connections and error messages.

I am aware that wiki images are not currently displaying correctly, I will fix that later today. Let me know if anything else seems significantly broken.

Something new. Had to do a capture (capcha? something like that-you know what I mean) question to login for the first ever time. Unaware as the message indicated that I had made too many attempts to login...

Yes went in and out and it required another captcha

Sorry about the login issues. I don't know what has caused them (something to do with cookies I imagine). I am hoping that it only affects each user once.

I have changed a cookie parameter which may fix this issue. If it is still happening, I will reset all of the cookies on the server (which will log everyone out).
