Private Messaging muddle

Post by MikeT »

I think my PM's stopped working.

I was in the middle of a conversation awaiting a response to my last sent on 1st Nov.

Just now, I'd thought I'd check my Outbox to see if it might not have been read yet but there was nothing showing.
I then checked my Sent Messages and my reply was not there either.

Ok, perhaps I messed up, better re-reply to the recipient's last.... nope, the system doesn't show it as the message to "Reply" to. It's got my earlier reply (dated 31st Oct) in it's place instead so I can reply to myself.

Not to be thwarted by that obstacle, I composed a new thread message and sent that. However, on checking back, it too has vanished.

Mike, there was what looked like Private message in THIS forum, which you had deleted and I have now permanently deleted for obvious reasons.

I will send you a PM shortly - please respond to this and I will respond back so we can test that all is well.

So just to confirm anything listed in the Outbox is unread by the recipient. But sent messages should alway be in your sent folder. Check the bottom left icon at the end of your message list to ensure these are filtered by Display: ALL MESSAGES, Sort By: POST TIME, Direction: DESCENDING.

Can you also confirm the number of messages are in your Sent / Inbox? If you are maxed out, you will need to delete Sent & Inbox items to make room before any new ones will come in or be seen in the sent items.

Use the MARK ALL at bottom right of screen to quickly select them a page at a time and then choose the DELETE action. If my message has not come in, then a full Inbox / Sent Item box is likely to be the cause.

Yes, I deleted that first post and submitted it anew.

Got your PM and replied to it. So it seems I can reply to you, just not this particular member.

There's nothing wrong with the order of thread's histroy it's the order of the messages within this one particular thread that's messed up. As you know, only the top message (which I've always known to be the last either party had sent) has the "Reply" option and in this case, instead of it being the message from the recipient I'm trying to reply to (dated 1st Now) the top message is my own previous reply from 31st Oct, so I can only reply to myself in that thread

As mentioned, as a temporary workaround I then tried sending a PM to the same recipient under a new thread but that didn't work either.

Folder is 78% full (157 out of 200 messages stored)

Coming from an IT background I can only surmise the problem must have been between chair and computer
