Can't check on SB at the moment to confirm the actual head unit. About 4 times over the last couple of months the CD (mp3) has stopped and gone to an egg timer and wouldn't eject. Did it again today, but didn't come back. Whipped the head unit out a little and there seems to be no power to the CD drive. The radio works fine. I think the CD has been out before because the tray is only secured by 2 small metal lugs and no screws, there isn't a top cover either. Is there a separate 12v feed to the CD bit, or is it shared? I've seen a few examples of the problem on the internet without an answer. I haven't had chance to check for codes yet but will do tomorrow.
Here is one example
Thanks

Re: rd4? cd has no power
You have the RD4 Head Unit Pete.
It can be down to the CD itself (marks / scratches, fingerprints), the CD lens etc. How we were all fooled by the indestructible CD when it came out - the biggest lie ever told! I have huge problems with Blu Ray discs - the most minuscule imbalance or slightest mark and the disc will not play. I know CDs are more robust, but it can also be down to the heat generated by the system. If I play a DVD in my unit, I can literally cook an egg on it after a while - so I basically don't and rely on my SD card to play my MP3s as there are no moving parts, lasers or extra heat generated. I appreciate you don't have an SD card though.
Try ejecting the CD, engaging the A/C and allowing the head unit to cool down for a while then try again.

Cheers Marc, it won't eject or spin up, an yes I agree about CD's, possibly that's why a lot of bands are going back to vinyl and downloadable media. Regarding the cooling down, I'll see if it works in the morning. Thanks again
Pete

Re: rd4? cd has no power
Checked it this morning, and ejected, once ejected it went in the bin, it was a mp3 compilation disc. Tried an original disc, worked. Hopefully it was just a disc that wasn't recognised, but I would have expected it to spin up, I'll give the laser a clean also with a bit of alcool, and try to find some 'puter screws that will hold the drive in place properly within the head unit. Is there supposed to be a top cover on the head unit? I'd imagine so, to stop crap falling in. Maybe a bit of packing tape?
Thanks again
Thanks again
