Re: Site formatting updated

Subsequent to the discussion above, I spent some time analysing why phpBB requires the browser cache to be cleared following updates to the forum style.

Without going into technical detail, I found that the designers had previously tried to alleviate this issue, but the fix they had implemented was not able to detect some changed pages. I have now written and applied a patch using a different technique which I believe will eliminate entirely the need for users to manually clear their browser caches on this forum.

Not sure if this connected but over the last couple of days my emails are flooding. Now I'm not just getting emails to tell me someone has contributed to a post that I've subscribed to (not necessarily the starter) but am now getting mails within the Citroen part yet I've set my settings to topic only regarding email. Unless I've done something soft?
When the word 'subscribe' is used I presume it means involved in, not just read? Thanks

It depends on the subscriptions and notifications settings you have set up. If you have subscribed to the 'Citroen' or 'Peugeot' Forums, then that will automatically include all topics listed under them. But you should be able to unsubscribe to any topic using the 'Spanner' at the bottom of the page next to 'post Reply', or you can manage and unsubscribe these more easily from the user control panel.

I hope that it is just a case of accidentally subscribing to a forum. If the problem is more widespread then I will investigate when I have time.

You can, as an interim measure disable email notifications, and still get the notification icon at the top of the forum screen. Click on the "notifications" at the top of the screen and the settings at the top right of the drop-down box, and untick some of the email options.

I've unchecked all emails apart from PMs, previously the only other one was 'topic that I've subscribed to', I'll let you know how it goes.

I have installed another updated version of the site style, you should not notice much difference, but the header formatting is better optimised for small phone screens.

I worry about this optimisation towards display on mobile phones as on some other forums (not here fortunately) the experience for we proper computer and laptop users has been made worse. Screw pandering for the phones I say.

Unfortunately it's a requirement for the styles to be mobile friendly / compliant before they allow the Forum styles to be formally approved and made available to others - which Mike has now adopted given that it was abandoned by the original creator of this style. It's the same for a lot of websites now - even some of the search engines won't play ball if a site isn't optimised for mobile devices...
