But that still won't allow you to have your images linked back to a Forum or as they incorrectly put it "Third Party Hosting" To get that, you need to be on the Plus500 plan at $399 per year.

Oh, right. I filter such extortion so never saw that.

Re: Notice to all Photobucket Users
If we are able to provide the capacity, I think the only safe (future) bet is to host the Forum images ourselves.
I think there's a lesson in all this. It could all happen again, elsewhere.
Rescue of existing off-site images is another matter, and a job we could do without!

Yes. That's exactly what it is...
Like others who have commented, I can't see it surviving... I expect it will disappear soon and re-appear in a different guise...
Has anyone said why PB are doing this? I've not seen any reasonable statement explaining why and attempting to justify their decision - unless I've missed it.

Yes, it is a blessing now Chris but we may be hamstrung by storage capacity limits on the forum host in the future...
These days it's not hard to stand up your own image host; the cost of a basic VPS and domain registration is not excessive and the Linux distros available on most VPSs already have all that's needed - an Apache or Nginx web server. It takes a little initial (easy) configuration but once done all that's then needed is an FTP client on your home PC to upload your images to the web sever and away you go.
My VPS costs me £8 per month and also provides my email server and file server as well as my web host. I think for that I get about 80GB of storage and a very fast and reliable CentOS operating system.

Re: Notice to all Photobucket Users
Thanks Marc. I can't even get in there to delete my images. The whole website is a mess that does not respond to commands.
ETA: Can't even log in, as the fields disappear. I have nothing on PB that isn't in my PC files, so no loss there. Pity that any images I have posted on other forums using PB will now be unavailable.

Re: Notice to all Photobucket Users
Derek, if you have any files on this Forum linked to PB, can you leave them on PB for the moment please, as we're working on a possible solution to convert them to being hosted on FCF automatically.
If successful, we'll let everyone know, so they can remove their images if they choose from PB. If you delete them before we've had a chance to try and convert them, it will leave missing links in the posts.
I know it's a pain, but when you do eventually get some decent access, you should still be able to download your albums from there to your PC. I suppose it's trying to find a time when it's not so busy!

Re: Notice to all Photobucket Users
Just a request - if it proves not to be possible for Admins to automatically convert the files from PB to hosting directly on FCF, would it be possible to find a way of highlighting duff PB links for each user so we can easily go back and try and re-upload replacement images manually ? I spent some time the other evening going back over the first 13 pages of my posts trying to hunt down dead PB image links - it'd be useful if there was a way of segregating the posts with dead links automatically if it comes to it.
Sadly no longer a C5 owner

Re: Notice to all Photobucket Users
Yes, we will have a list of forum posts that contain PB linked images. I have a partial list already, and am working on completing it (there are several thousand posts). The list is generated by a script, but for technical reasons, I have had some trouble getting it to work correctly.

Re: Notice to all Photobucket Users
I am now confident that we will be able to take a backup copy of all the photobucket-hosted files that have been used as in-line images on this forum, and use the backup images to replace the ones that are no longer accessible.
There is still some work to do before you will see any improvement, but it is under way.

Re: Notice to all Photobucket Users
Is it possible for me to download my blog, complete with pictures?
I could put the whole thing into the reading list if not but almost 90 pages to save individually isn't appealing.
