Re: 1997 1.9TD Estate - Re-test on Monday

Post by beko1987 »

I was hoping I had sorted it, turns out I wasnt reving it hard enough. I've just gone and done it a few times as the MOT guy did it, and yep, thick black smoke every time. I turned the fuelling down another quarter too, and there's still black smoke.

It's not looking great. The test runs out on the 23rd, so that's any chance of sorting it out after this weekend gone, I have no more annual leave and I have a speed awareness course on Sunday that obviously I can't miss.

There's a guy on another forum who lives near me who said he would have a look, guess he is my only hope!

That's a bloody menace Beko :( You're going to have to do as ekjdm says I fear...

Any more guidance I can give I'll will but I reckon I've more or less covered it...

I do have a PDF document that describes the pump in great detail and may help you set it up... PM me an email address that can receive a big 1.7Mb document and I'll send it to you...

It has a section on testing and setting up...

Very kind Jim, thanks! I'll have a read and see if I understand it. Can I do much with a modified lda pin and Landover boost pin?

It'll be on its way in a few minutes... From a hotmail account that's very obviously me ;)

One thing you can try without doing anything else is to completely disable the LDA by simply disconnecting the vacuum hose to it ;)

Thanks Jim, email recieved! I tried it with the lda pipe disconnected and it still belches out smoke. I've also popped the ufo cap off, and turned the screw out 2 turns, no improvement or change at all. I am thinking of having the ufo off and turning the cog anti clockwise a bit, but not sure.

It doesn't smoke generally now (unless I try to boot it from too low revs in the wrong gear), it's literally just the puff of black clag when the revs hit the top. There's a nice black patch on the road outside my house now from me trying!

Have you checked you're getting enough air into the engine and all the boost pipes are fully clear and not obstructing airflow?

The air filer is clean isn't it?

I genuinely wish you all the best in sorting it, but from what you are describing, I would suggest one of these a bit quick!

Looks as though you do - I wasn't logged in and was locked out of it - I have sent threads to my daughter and she has always been unable to access them.

Yep, no membership needed.

However, someone on there who has good knowledge of the 1.9td lives not far from me, so Saturday lunchtime I have an appointment! He said that if tweaking the existing setup can't solve it he has a standard pump he would be willing to swap.

So I'm a bit more hopeful now

That is very strange that some can read it but others can't.
