The reason I have not been too active today and now I've got back and shoulder ache!! But was it worth it?
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
I can't remember the last time I did a jigsaw puzzle, we had a large table with a huge one in the kitchen back when I had the garage business and we let anyone who visited have a go, it took weeks to finish and now I can't even remember what the subject was.
I've got one sitting on the shelf here unopened, a Christmas present from a couple of years ago, It's a map of the world in colour from 1913. only 500 pieces.

That looks like a ring doughnut. I'd prefer a jam doughnut if it's ok with you

Interesting video https://www.facebook.com/watch/?extid=N ... 4980141690
The name John Dodd probably wont mean much to you unless you are as old as me but I am sure many have heard the story.
In my youth he was famous for fitting a Rolls Royce Merlin engine into a - Rolls Royce, the 27 litre Spitfire engine - although I'm not sure that it actually was although he got into trouble with the aforementioned manufacturer.
He had a garage not far from where I lived in Kent at 'Pratts Bottom', I kid you not. It was on the A21 between Bromley and Sevenoaks near Knockholt station. He used to advertise in Exchange and Mart that he would fly anywhere to repair your automatic transmission. I haven't heard of him for many years and wondered what became of the car and himself. He obviously did all right from it.
He is only 7 years older than me so there's hope for me yet.

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
Thanks for that I don't think I have seen it. Almost opposite his garage there is a road called 'Rushmore Hill', up near the top there is or was a scrapyard and it was the only one I have ever seen aircraft engines in, wonder if that's where he got it. We were not all that far from Biggin Hill and it was not long after the war so that could be where they came from.

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
I remember heading south east as a young 14 yr old, and turning up at an address that had WW2 parts everywhere in the front garden, got shown into the back garden, ww2 engines everywhere plus other parts, got shown indoors, it was an Aladdin's cave!! I did manage to get my hands on a 12v (I believe) battery meter from a Spit with the radioactive paint still on it. Those places are very few and far between now.

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
Practically every town had a government surplus store in the '50s. I used to go to one out in the country at Bethesden in kent near where 'The Darling Buds of May' was filmed, he had sheds everywhere and even his greenhouses were full, rather like Pa Larkin and about that period.

On the subject of parts, I have a wing panel from MH434 with original DDay stripes or was it MH417? It's Caroline Graces anyway
