Yes they were what I was meaning, they look like high level gravity feed tanks to me. I wonder if they are the remains of a one time mulberry harbour or similar? :)

They are called Carrelets (Fishing Huts)

"Dotted along the banks of the Gironde Estuary are countless wooden fishing huts which have been built on stilts. Their main implement is a square-shaped pulley-operated net (or “filet carré”) which has given the humble shacks their name: “carrelets”."

You are on the right track, but a little more precision is required.

The location of the jack and the cooling system reservoir have a niggling familiarity.

Strugling with that one , haven't got that close. Not a single clue in that engine bay, no stray bits of wording or logos.

Four leads + 1 so I presume 4 cylinder in line maybe RWD, V4, or a flat 4 with the air cleaner in the V or on top but those things are rare in small cars. All injection or carburettor gubbins hidden.

Nothing green and round. Castrol GTX gets a mention...would the Italians or the French clag that on their motors?

So how close is SIMCA....very very or..is is just a small car.

It is a Simca-based design, but not badged as such, and probably not made where you would expect.

Not correct on either count, but on the right track.
Being RHD probably narrows down the list of places it would have been made as a CKD kit and then assembled elsewhere.

BTW, the Talbot Horizon was by some distance the worst and most dangerous car that I have driven in my life. Admittedly the example I had as a company car did have a braking fault, but the dealer could not fix it and kept sending it back with the same fault.
