No it's a British number plate. They used to be black. The white and yellow background plates were first introduced in the late 1960s, but optional for a few years, then compulsory on new cars from another date.

However apparently much more recently any car registered before Jan 1975 can now go to black background if the owner wishes.

Well, it is local, as there is a PTS Developments sticker in the rear windscreen (Citroen specialist in Wokingham).

There are always a few "classics" at the Blue Bell at Crookham Northumberland as you head north up the A697 bound for Scotland.

Yes and saw an R-Reg Citroen ZX Temptation in dark blue in a layby . Absolutely impossible to discretely phoyograph, and the good old english reserve of not wishing to appear rude, alarm or offend prevented a tap on the window to ask the appropriate permission :-D

Had it in my head that the cutoff for the black and silver plates was 1971, but a quick Google seems to back up the 1975 date.

Interesting, that means if I wind up restoring the parts Invacar it could have black plates as it's a 1973 example (current project example is 1975).

vis-a-vis absolutely nothing PSV's were exempt from the original reflective plates regs. (my mother used to say she had a mind that was a mine of useless information - maybe a family trait?)

Erm, his AX is one year younger (M reg as opposed to L), but it looks a lot like Daffodil, doesn't it?

The comparison of the car beside it goes to show how monstrously large modern cars are! Do we really need these huge cars bloating up the roads usually carrying one person ?

My Ion is a metre shorter than the Xantia so would look similarly dwarfed beside that car...

I was thinking just the same yesterday out on my bike ride... They take up an awful lot of room on rural roads too..

Have you noticed too that there are few (if any) ordinary utility cars now? Everything seem to be a rolling bling-fest and often not in good taste either - all rather gaudy...

Whatever happened to the good old plain, workaday car? Basic and functional...

Strikes me that cars these days, by and large, are just phallic symbols for the pathetically insecure...

Had a (nice) shock last night on the way home, we saw our old XM going the other way. Presumably still in the capable hands of it's previous owner who bought it back, and looking healthy too. :) I don't believe Hans is on this forum but may still be a CCC member (the car was in the Citroenian some time in 2012/13 IIRC, Reg M***LUW).

Always glad to see a former project still going strong, was starting to wonder as we hadn't seen it for a while. :)

For weeks, if not months, now there's been a very tidy dk blue Saxo o/s KwikSh*t in Lee High Rd, Lewisham. Originally I assumed it was a customer's car that had been left there the previous evening - now I don't really know what to make of it. Never seems to move, but looks too clean to have been standing all this time.

At an American car show in Kilbeggan on Sunday - a '51 Pug 203 van!
