Re: Picture(s) of the day....
Turned my outside taps off inside and left the taps open.
Got up at 03:00 to make a cuppa and heard water running
Hadn't quite closed the service valve under the sink. Sigh of relief.
I have several thermometers dotted about. On in the services cupboard where I read the meters. It is always at leas three degrees in there, more usually six when it is below zero outside (I drop a probe out of a window). I would drill a hole for the probe if it wasn't so cold outside.
I have an inside/outside one in my room but the outside is unreliable as the probe is shoved through a (closed) vent, but I suspect that heat from the room bleeds through and skews the readings.
A pain to relocate on PVCu windows.
Since I took that photo, five minutes ago, it has dropped to 2.3°
Actually -1.5°C that side of the house (north facing) but 4°C at the front (direct sunlight).

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
I think we can take it that now is about as warm a time of day as we'll get.
Full sunshine all morning and this is it! Our weather station pole has been mounted in the middle of the garden space and as high up as we can get it above the roof of the summerhouse. Lochgelly is showing minus 2.3c just now. It was over minus 8c there early this morning.

Turned out to be so Regards NeilNewcastleFalcon wrote: 13 Dec 2022, 10:46 Last night was the coldest so far this winter. Required a bit of intervention first thing.
Decent day for icicle finding though.

Not a Fisherman or a Shepherd in sight. Plumbers maybe?
Prediction for us here in the East of Fife is -3c overnight but still -1c tomorrow.

I wonder if Neil would like to add the picture to the 'What's this?" thread, stuff in there some might recognise.Dormouse wrote: 13 Dec 2022, 10:45 Oops! At least you get to find things as you sort out all that stuff.

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
Ran past this house early yesterday morning... Definitely needing a plumber there...
Happily, not coming out of the house itself but out of the meter well... Quite a sizeable burst, there was a little fountain above the meter well lid...

-2.0° at the rear of the house, +1.7° at the front.
Always a discrepancy depending on the location of the temperatureometer but all have been checked against one another in the same locations and been with 0.2°C of one another.

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
I've got one of those boxes as well, mostly filled with old plumbing fittings assorted bits of old copper pipe in the category too short or manky to be of any use, old taps but there is one thing in unused condition lurking in the box, not exactly sure why I acquired it, that's it at the right hand side of the pic.
