On Your Bike
You take one bike, Sandra often has two plus kit and travels long distances. Horses for courses sort of. Physically there is not a lot differences in the overall sizes of road bikes and mountain bikes. Handlebar width and shape is the obvious one, weight slightly (some mountain bikes are amazingly light ) but the packing sizes are very similar.
I can send you a design for a removable, washable tray that a bike can lie flat in with the front wheel removed ( or not ) if you ever feel the need. It uses the same front fork clamp but on its side. It can also be stood upright on the floor or in a shed/garage and has carry handles all round.
If you think these items should be in your cycling thread and not cluttering up Zel's feel free to sort them out.

Re: On Your Bike
Yes, that would be the better place for it... in the 'On Yer Bike' thread rather than mine as I'm quite content with my current bike transport arrangements...Dormouse wrote: 09 Feb 2023, 10:30 If you think these items should be in your cycling thread and not cluttering up Zel's feel free to sort them out.
Thanks for all of the above Dave and if things change I'll be having a deeper chat with you.

No problems. Just need Zel to try and fit a bike in his wheelchair space now. Go on Zel. It's not like you have a million other things to do. NOT! cheers

Re: On your Bike
As the posts have quite rightly been moved here it would be helpful if each respective poster of the moved posts could go in and edit the title on each of their posts to read 'On your Bike' rather than Zel's........etc!!

I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

I very much expect it will. I have a friend who has an ex-mobility Renault Kangoo adapted for wheelchair carrying... Her bike fits in with lots of room to spare so I'd very much expect one would fit the Caddy...Dormouse wrote: 09 Feb 2023, 12:53 No problems. Zel, next time you're round we can try one of mine in there

Brings a whole new meaning to the phrase "Give us a lift!"

With the ability to raise/lower the 'footplate' to allow for bumpy terrain!

Re: On your Bike
Love it

I was out TT training again this morning on hilly (mostly up) course, one that takes in a lot of one of our most hated TT race courses...
Delighted to average over 17mph

I hoped my bike video camera would capture this proud moment but I find the multiplex speed of the speed camera display and the 'shutter speed' of my video camera are not good bedfellows. All I could resolve was a few random bars of the 7 segment displays and the occasional flash of 'Thank You'

I'll be forever upset... Quality of the above is poor as I had to zoom it quite a bit to get a decent 'Thank You' out of it...
Not such a nice day today, very dull and just warm enough to be riding in just a trisuit without turning a shade of pale blue

Re: On your Bike
This is quite thought provoking.
One of my grandsons is a bike mechanic, sending it to him too.

Re: On your Bike
It provoked a few thoughts in me:
Wouldn't it be nice to have his tooling!
Seems like a classic example of trying to fix something that isn't broken!
I wonder what Jim will think of this?

Re: On your Bike
I'll pass judgement when it's in full production and proven... Over the years, many have tried to do something different to the traditional derailleurs but nothing has proved either as good as or better so frankly, I hold out very little hope for this but happy to be proved wrong in due course...
The latest thinking is to replace the function of the front derailleur with an epicyclic arrangement in the rear hub. It's showing some promise but the usual problems of frictional losses and weight remain an issue...
The good old chain and derailleurs are both light and efficient and bottom line, they work exceedingly well, especially when a bit of electronics is involved to shift gears using small servo motors... I have such a system (Shimano Di2) on my duathlon bike...
As I say, happy to be proved wrong in my prediction

Re: On your Bike
I doubt it will ever be produced Jim, just an academic exploration to see if it would be feasible, which it was pretty much concluded that it wasn't.
Worth a shot though and it may have applications elsewhere.
