I thought the target was a childish 58008 (or is that with calculators - upside down for, snigger snigger, lady parts :bouncy: ) but a very happy HOOSB to the plucky Clio all the same! :rofl2:

Interesting about the carbon filter incorporating the solenoid. My understanding is:
  • Car off: vent tank to atmosphere via carbon filter.
  • Car running: vent tank to inlet manifold and burn them off (bypass carbon filter as I understand it)
I can for previous experience the carbon filters don't enjoy being forced fed petrol, and the engine doesn't run well either (possible on a Vauxhall Corsa if you forget which way round the various pipes connections at the tank end go!!)

There could be better videos on the EVAP Cannister Vent Valve, but if you know nothing about them like me before today it may be informative.
The one on the BB Clio clicks like a ticking clock.

This could well be intervention number 2...Remove that metal cage one way or another.
Just dumping this here too help me out.! The BBClio is a Cilio II but the cage is the same.

Neil, on the subject of the carbon canister: I've never known one being a problem but there's always a first time. Easy to check - just block off the line to its actuator valve so it's effectively out of the equation. The ECU won't notice. Basically, do as we used to do with EGR systems...

Thanks Jim, still a little way to go for me before the penny drops as to whether the EVAP system with a faulty valve either permanently closed or permanently open would have an effect on intermittent rough running.

Meanwhile next job is to get that metal cage removed by fair means or foul, although the usual foul means of angle grinder or hacksaw will require a particular duty of care due to those wiring bundles and multi connectors plugging into the ECU and the ECU itself not wishing to melt with the heat of a bit of angle grinding or be nicked with a hacksaw. I will reserve the Foul means as a last resort, and persevere with the slow process of turning that wheel with an allen key poked through the small hole in a nice inaccessible, blind location at the back of the engine with little room.

When the valve is closed the fuel system is sealed, so if the valve is stuck in that state, the tank will eventually get into vacuum with the engine running and the pump will not be able to shift fuel. If the valve is stuck open then there would be no abnormal effect on engine operation, but there may be a fuel smell around the engine after the vehicle as sat on a hot day.

Thanks Mike. Would there be any effect upon the intake manifold "pressure" . The plumbing from/to the valve is connected directly to the inlet manifold as well.

Made myself a little tool, fits nicely in the holes in the round brass wheel, but so far that wheel which will not have turned once even in 23 years will just not turn the tiniest bit either up as is required or down, or in a fiddle up and down. Bit of spray down in the vicinity will be my next trick.

Very awkward, bulkhead prevents any additional force or leverage to be applied to jolt it into the required movement due to very restricted space.

Visit to the Recycling Centre and Yorkshire Trading. Spent about £6 and came away with...
P1260059.JPG
Never mind the quality feel the width!

The BBClio, being the workhorse of the fleet had been sitting filled up with stuff for the tip since last week. I had also searched high and low for this long specialist thin tube spark plug socket for the deep seated spark plugs on the Clio D4F engine. Almost given up and resigned to getting a replacement when the trip to the tip came up trumps. Once the rubbish had been moved out there it was poking out from under the drivers seat!

Once was lost but now is found!

Had to look up Yorkshire Trading.
There was something of that or similar name here, mainly haberdashery. Have bought lots of things from them but suddenly they were gone and reportedly been done for massive fraud.
Probably not the same company, based on their wares.

Getting on for vintage now that flexible "ruler". Must have been in the 1980's when I brought that back from the London Transport Museum Shop.

Just had a quick look to see if you could still buy them (you can't!) and came across this fetching set of Moquette Pyjamas! Wonder if they have ever sold any!
