Re: Picture(s) of the day....
I didn't think to be devious, either!
Did think it "far north" - where else?
See that the NC500 is in the news again this week - too much rubbish, too many caravans, and some folk just trying to do it as fast as possible. Crazy.

Another recent invader, looks familiar, not a clue what it might be though.
Or these that appeared a few days ago, very intense blue that the camera has made a mess of.

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
The curse of tourism. The Welsh triangle, Snowdon, Loch Lomond and just about anywhere in Cornwall. You name it. Once it has been touted about on the media it gets inundated. And abused unfortunately. Having been to the Costas in my younger days and strolled about in the middle of the night it is amazing to realise how many Spaniards worked during the night to clear up the mess from tourists only to have to do it all over again the next night. Or any stadium after a match. What is it with some people and "Litter"?white exec wrote: 28 Aug 2021, 06:56 I didn't think to be devious, either!

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
I remember going to Circuit Catalunya and using the train to get back to Calella on the coast. Me and my wife would walk down to Montmello station where the sidings were full of trains marshalled in and just waiting to be pulled out to take the crowds back to Barcelona. There was quite literally ten or twelve trains just waiting there ready to be laid on for the hordes of race goers. Could you imagine that ever happening in Britain!
On the saturday, which was not as busy, We took the train into Barcelona and made a night of it, getting the late train back up the coast to Calella. On the sunday however, the sidings were rammed full with trains for Barcelona and they were leaving every ten minutes in a never ending shuttle service. Hordes of spectators. We did the opposite and travelled up to Macanet-Masanes and had near deserted carriages to ourselves then changed and had a leisurely ride back down the coast to Calella.
Hats off to the Spaniards. We could learn a thing or two if we just opened our eyes.

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
Incidentally, we did F1 at Catalunya and had a fortnight's holiday for less than it would have cost us to go to Silverstone for the weekend - even as a volunteer marshall or scrutineer I would have had to pay full price for my wife to attend and pay my own travel and accommodation. Even that would have worked out only just under what we paid for the whole fortnight in Spain including 3 day passes for both of us including bus travel to and from the circuit. The "specially" laid on bus times were useless - obvious worked out by a Brit! Friday was a disaster of a trip, only concentrating on the timings for F1 itself and not catching the support racers before or after. We abandoned the bus and took a taxi to the circuit to get there for the start of the programme, using the train to get us back without feeling like cattle.

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
The last time we went to Barcelona we flew to Valencia to look over the old GP circuit then had a hire car for the weekend. Flew in on Thursday drove up to Barca and stayed just north of city and used the car to and from the circuit. No issues and not much traffic getting out. It was the year of the first bend Mercedes disaster!!
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
would that have been May 2016? On a visit to my brother in law in Holland, I got him to take me to Zandvoort so I could peer over the fence at the track. My other half and he decided to wait in a local bar while I indulged myself. It was very windy. Quite common apparently. Roll on next season.

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
It might have been a Nuffield/BMC tractor but it had gone by the time the evening dog walk took place.
But here's second prize with more to follow on the classics thread. A host of Lambrettas (of Scottish origin I think!)

love the long range tourer fuel tank and the clever use of non slip shelf cloth to protect the rear panels from errant passenger scuff marks. tidy bikeNewcastleFalcon wrote: 28 Aug 2021, 20:08 It might have been a Nuffield/BMC tractor but it had gone by the time the evening dog walk took place.

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
Longest trip since August 28th 2020. Brother's birthday and the only time I go to Whitby any more.
Roads were very busy as it is Bank Holiday and Whitby War Weekend.
As usual he wasn't home. Tried to find my nephew's house and he wasn't home either.
This involved quite a long walk around and passed this place:
Lady Harrowing's House.
A care home now.
I hardly recognise Whitby any more, and as the saying goes, "All this were fields when I were a lad"
True though.
The house was always regarded as a bit haunted and like Miss Haversham lived there. There are two gatehouses that I used to deliver papers to.
Jane Ann (née Tesseyman), Lady Harrowing and Sir John Henry Harrowing with their daughters Margaret Isobel Harrowing and Emily Alexandra Hepton Budgen (née Harrowing)
by Lafayette
whole-plate nitrate negative, 7 July 1926
Given by Pinewood Studios via Victoria and Albert Museum, 1989.
A little further up the road was what looked to have been a church that I don't recall at all.
Failed to take a picture of that.

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
An addendum.
I knew nothing of Lady Harrowing apart from her name.
Just done a bit of snooping and find that her surname was most appropriate.
A bit of history.
I was surprised to find that they owned this house:
Which was also owned by my aunt and uncle, for a while.
Exceedingly posh place.
