Re: Picture(s) of the day....
Rural filling station unable to take a full load of 30,000 litres off a tanker are always charged a sizeable amount more for the fuel by the fuel company.
My village site tanks, two of them, only held a total of 500 gallons a bit over 2,000 litres each.
I couldn't even buy fuel at the price the supermarkets were selling it for.
Needless to say that site no longer exists.

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
Harvest time in the Borders.
Not the picture I had in mind. One of the most nondescript and unremarkable borders between England and Scotland is on a minor road heading towards Kelso in agricultural country and cereal fields either side probably the same farmers land straddling the "border", in the process of being harvested.
The combine had an impressive width on it, and I thought that would make a nice picture. Parked (yes ridiculously I admit) in the middle of a single track side road, got out and got in position 100 yards down the road to a gap in the hedge where the combine would appear up the slope of the field, and loom large in the lens with a background of golden fields and a cloud of dust as it went about its business.
Big tractor and trailer appears up the single track road, I do a 100 yard sprint back to the car to move it out of the way, and the photo op went by.
So this is a landscape shot of the Borders,
Regards Neil

Thanks to Marc and Mike for reviving FCF Pic of the Day which was largely responsible for bludgeoning over the previous board limit for attachments last night.

I am very familiar with this bridge over the Tyne. Its now part of a nice walking route which takes you down past George Stephenson's birthplace at Wylam Northumberland on the old railway line. What a joy it was to discover amongst the old 1960's transport cine films which Alan Snowdon has put together on his youtube channel, a footplate journey on the Tyne Valley Line via North Wylam, with the bridge being used as it was intended.

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
If you follow the "On your Bike" thread, from a chance encounter with a couple with an electric tandem in Northumberland, and an appropriate snap for "on your bike", FCF member Old'uns, put 2 and 2 together and came up with a couple who had featured on Channel 4's Escape to the Chateau DIY featuring their "Turrets and Tandems" venture at Chateau Caillac on the banks of the River Lot.

Well just another piece of the Jigsaw, in 2020 they put their boat up for sale moored up at Northwich in Cheshire for £105,000. looks goodold'uns wrote: 21 Aug 2021, 23:08 Angela and Steve who rent out their Chateau for the Summer and return to England to live on a boat i seem to recall?

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
as penance for missing 2 "mileage" dates - I think? - have some wildlife pics from a ride around Chasewater
These really are as close as they look, 2 groups but not far apart, walker with a dog passed just before me and they stopped eating, looked, carried on.
These appear to be the same group who have been seen about a mile away on a roundabout in front of a Morris ons store, so used to contact with humans.
Normally on the Chase itself they stop, look and disappear.

POTD Wasp sting Club.
On the dog walk, overhanging larch branch, and for no particular reason as I sometimes do, I reached up and stripped the soft needles from the tail end of a branch.
Got more than I bargained for in this little bunch of needles was unknown to me a little wasp, stung the inside of my little finger, and caused a consequential stream of expletives.

Me about 30 minutes ago, and prior to that probably decades ago. When were you last stung by a wasp![]()

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
I like to discover bit of local history that I never knew at random. Part of the Petrol Infrastructure in the early days of the internal combustion engine in motor vehicles.
REgards Neil
A complete pollution fest in its day of course. The cokeworks closed in 1966, so I well remember the foreboding stench of journeys on the bus into Newcastle passing by the workshttps://mattsautomobilia.co.uk/product/ ... l-can-4186The major industry in Blaydon Burn was the Coke and Tar Works on the eastern side of the valley. No structural evidence of the industry remains other than an old service tar tunnel. The tar works were the first in the world to produce petrol from coal, a product known as Blaydon Benzole.
