Re: Picture(s) of the day....
And a revival from the archives of a little driving lesson for an old tractor.

Left pedal for clutch, right pedals -there are 2 of them- are rumoured to do the brakes ( but I think they were left off the options list on the one I was driving ), there should be a small pedal behind your right(?) heel for the difflock. One of the gearbox knobs is for high / low range on the gearbox and the other does three speed plus reverse. Both need to be in neutral to start the engine. No foot throttle on these, just the hand throttle by the steering wheel. 3 cylinder engine on the one I was on, and although they've got a cold start / excess fuel knob on the side of the Simms injection pump, proper cold weather starting involves an awful lot of cranking of the engine....... as in about 2 minutes of turning it over on the starter before it can be coaxed into life![]()
The one I was on came with air conditioning, whereas the 3000 you photographed came without
The exhaust pipe merely rests in the manifold, in fact you can take it out and turn it upside down and stick it back in and it makes no difference..... it's still noisySpares still available - I did the water pump on it last year !

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
I wasn't even considering a new one. I have a Countax 42" cut lawn tractor which I paid very little money for a few years ago, I gave it a bit of an overhaul and its served me very well. It has a 16 hp twin OHV Vanguard engine and hydraulic drive. It tows a trailer and will also pull a car but its petrol
Makes grass cutting expensive but what a diesel one costs will buy a lot of petrol.
I saw a nice but tatty 3 cylinder diesel four wheel drive for less than £2000, I was Sorely tempted.

We had a Fordson Major with a rear mounted forklift and a micro digger when my wife and I built our house 30 years ago. Lovely toys! When we had our moving in/anniversary party we used our bus as a lounge bar.

As a youngster I remember being told how to get a Major and trailer over the cut ditches for field drains. Open the throttle full and don't stop till the trailer is over the ditch!
