Re: Insurance time again.
Just be aware that you can only use one NCB on a policy. Unless you have a multi-car policy with multiple policy holders, then named driver's won't earn a NCB. Generally any NCB earned will only be valid for a couple of years if not 'active', then you start again...

Re: Insurance time again.
I haven't used an NCB for the past forty years or so, I don't usually bash into things. My only claims have been against other drivers. Coincidentally both Hondas written off.

Re: Insurance time again.
My renewal notice for the Subaru came in yesterday from the AA, I pay monthly and currently it is £44 a month. The renewal quote came in at £66 a month so time for a trawl I thought. So far the best I have found is £32 a month but from an unknown to me source so disregarding that one, the next few from reputable insurers are all around the £42-44 a month including Halifax, Aviva, RAC, Lloyds etc and I have just seen the quote from Direct Line - £1580 pa or £125+ per month which they didn't actually quote - so much for their TV advertising!! So tomorrow I'll call the AA and tell them that I want the same as last year or I'm moving and we'll see what happens!!

I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

I am awaiting my renewal notice. If Direct line do that to me I shall be off. My hairdresser is over 90 and they doubled his insurance so looks as though I shall have to start looking round again, he has a few years on me mind.

Re: Insurance time again.
I attacked the insurance issue this morning beginning with a call to the AA, my existing insurer. No dice there for matching the other quotes I had, so I requested my renewal to be cancelled and the policy to expire accordingly. I then did some more research and settled on the Halifax as the best deal for me and therefore arranged it to begin on my renewal date with a monthly cost £1.48 cheaper than last year. In the current climate I consider that a decent result!!

Has anyone had any real world experience with Hagerty insurance ? Good ? Bad ? Indifferent ?
I'm just exploring the insurance market 6 weeks in advance of needing to renew.

Re: Insurance time again.
Got my renewal notice today with an aplogetic note about the increase in premiums.
There was no increase due to the claim I had in January, the other party stumped up.
No loss of no claims bonus as I hadn't made a claim, LV+ only acted as mediators with the other company.
And the staggering increase?
-£8!
Indeed, a decrease from last year.
It is fairly high due to my age but I wasn't expecting it to be less this year.

Re: Insurance time again.
For the last few years I have been with Direct Line, they were always cheaper than the competition so I stopped checking - until this year! For the last five years my and my wife's insurance have been around £250 for C5 diesel estates Last year it leapt to around £400 but I had to pay that as I was doing it by phone when I was replacing the car. This year its leapt to north of £600! So back to the comparison sites. I attacked them with a much cheaper quote for another site and they did reduce it substantially but on checking the web sites the cheapest sites were offering just over £300 a great improvement. The prices on comparison sites varies wildly so check as many as you can and do it early, the closer you get to the expiry date the dearer its likely to get.
The car I have now is a 1600 estate which I didn't really want but it is surprisingly good, it does 60mph as quietly and smoothly as the 2.0 and I don't generally drive much faster than that - which is why I get 60mpg+ going to Scotland.
My hairdresser was complaining about his insurance, he said it doesn't half go up when you get past 90!! He has been cutting my hair for 50+ years, used to have a shop in Axminster but retired 20 or more years ago and has set up a salon in his back garden

Re: Insurance time again.
I felt a great disturbance in the Force earlier today, as if millions of insurance underwriters suddenly cried out in terror........
I took out a new car policy for 'Helga', my Merc with Hagerty (Aviva) last night. I'd got a quote a couple of weeks ago and took up the quote last night. When the documents were emailed to me I noticed they'd got the date of manufacture wrong and also missed off Mrs Bobins as a named driver - even though she was listed as a driver on the Statement of Facts document. I emailed them last night with a brief note about this and asking if it could be corrected. At 10.00am this morning I got a brief reply : "The amended documents are on their way". 2 minutes later <ping> the updated documents were emailed to me.
No drama, no asking to confirm security details, no additional cost, no nothing. Just unusually good simple service of the sort we all desire. Surely some mistake ?
Minus 1 point for getting the details wrong in the first place, but plus 10 points to Hagerty for sorting it out so simply.

Excellent
On that basis top marks!
I've just had my bike insurance renewal quote arrive... It costs more to insure my bikes, and me as a cyclist, than it does to insure Bluebell!

Re: Insurance time again. Stuffed!
Just got my online renewal quote fro Direct Line, they want over fifteen hundred quid this time
, looked for a quote from LV they say they won't quote cos I'm too old.
Some of you suggest Adrian Flux in your posts is it worth me asking them? Or any other suggestions.

Re: Insurance time again.
Flux, AgeCo, and possibly Saga as well as one or two of the comparison sites might be good. Phone Flux and Saga as opposed using their online forms. Saga weren't competitive when I went to renew, but at least I was speaking to a real person who actually tried to help !

Re: Insurance time again.
Mine is getting a bit high too (£750, I'm 76) and I rarely use the car these days but my son uses it for work every day and excursions on his off days.
I'm considering having it insured for him as primary driver and see if it costs any less.
If you have younger family members that may be a viable option for you.

Further to my comment about my barber, I was talking to him on my last visit and he is in fact 95! Still got his car insured at a reasonable price, cant Remember what though. He has a X reg Toyota diesel estate that he bought new!
