Re: Bargain Basement Motoring
Thanks Skull much appreciated and probably needed! New MOT garage for me, usually take it to the Council Workshops at Alnwick or Stakeford for an independent test. They do a pretty thorough job, but there is a lot of filling in time wandering about so I'm trying somewhere a bit nearer. A couple of my original go to places for the past 40 years the proprietors have have retired, which is when I started using the Council Independent places.
Like I said, I take the stick it in and see what needs doing approach rather than the get it right first time. So yes its fingers crossed! I'm very much a reluctant car fixer these days

Re: Bargain Basement Motoring
Thanks for the good wishes an excellent result...no advisories and a pass, and no immediate fettling required.
A celebratory drive out is in order, may even give it some of the good stuff to drink.

Excellent result, I think your drive out may deserve a stop at the Drift Cafe!!

I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

Celebratory flask and nibbles in a layby overlooking Alnwick Castle Pastures, but did finish off at The Rigg and Furrow Brewery.CitroJim wrote: 26 Jul 2024, 15:01 Now there's an excellent plan![]()
After a good run on the beach of course - to work up a good appetite
Worked for me!
The MOT celebration trip in pictures
Barter Books at the Old Station in Alnwick | The Flask and Turkish Delight/Bounty Bar Stop
More Alnwick Castle scenic layby | Alnmouth and the old ferryman's hut... avid "Vera" fans will note its appearance in one of the episodes
East Coast Mainline The Coquet Viaduct and the only place you can see it from the public highway |

Re: Bargain Basement Motoring
I think the MOT passing Celebratory Drive-out for pleasure should be compulsory, and turn into an FCF tradition

A simple trip of pure "Motoring for Pleasure"

I totally agree Neil and to that end I shall start a new thread for the purpose and leave it to you to make the first 'post introduction' post to set it off!!NewcastleFalcon wrote: 27 Jul 2024, 08:37I think the MOT passing Celebratory Drive-out for pleasure should be compulsory, and turn into an FCF tradition![]()

Re: Bargain Basement Motoring
It does occur to me - is this a dying tradition ? How many people actually just go out for a drive because they enjoy it ?
I still do, but only really in the Merc, or on the motorbike, and the Mrs does take out the hairdryer just for a drive.

I spend half my life thinking up reasons to go for a drive and the other half doing it!!

Re: Bargain Basement Motoring
Yes, I believe so when I see how a large majority of vehicles are driven and the obvious stress of the driver. An extension of the angry and unhappy society in which we currently live.
Modern road conditions don't generally lend themselves to driving being much of a pleasure either - at least for me. I do however find driving Bluebell pleasurable, especially if I choose my time and place.
I fully endorse driving for pleasure as and when you can
