Good to know the car of the day got a 5* Euro NCAP rating:

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
MG have a lot going for them Mick. When we talk about the UK car industry it has 100% lost its British Ownership.
That is only to be expected, investors and the companies are global. I think it would be very good news if MG/SAIC could be tempted to set up a manufacturing plant in the UK, and although very much Chinese I'm pretty sure they could develop a strong UK market for their products. Yes another "foreign owned firm" (like I say they all are) but manufacturing jobs for the UK.

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
For 5 points - and without looking it up - what does NCAP stand for ?
And for 3 and-a-half points - what was the last MG badged vehicle prior to Chinese ownership to undergo an NCAP test ?
...I know the answer to the first question, but not the second

Somewhere there is an NCAP video of a Geely ripoff of a Mercedes. It completely fell to pieces on the first impact. Hopefully they have improved.

Following on from Steve's comment about the Geely, here's a compilation of 'bad' NCAP crashes, though some don't seem too bad. The Alfa at the beginning is a little shocking though - it goes from a saloon to a mini in a split second

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
TOH definitely don't know what NCAP stands for and nowhere near certain of the chronology of MG's later offerings but there was the MGF and the MG TF .
So if I was University challenge and Paxman was pressing for an answer I would have to guess...
dont they often prefix it with Euro NCAP , Europe likes commissions but it might be committee Best guess for AP Accident Prevention.

Nations Commission for Accident Prevention

Likely to have been superceded by Micks Post Apparently not Well done Me!

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
I'll bow to Mick's MG knowledge and take the answer as the MG TF as being the last of the 'UK' owned MGs to undergo an NCAP test.
It surprised me to see the the yanks initiated the first New Car Assessment Programme wayyyyyy back in 1979. The Yurpeeans only got in on the act in 1996/97. One of the main reasons that the testing programme was begun was to get manufacturers to improve safety. Although their cars might meet the legal requirements of the day, legislation always lags behind the real world, so the NCAP tests were a way of encouraging manufacturers to strive to improve safety.
