Yes I tried all sorts of combinations too, but thanks for having a go. I kept coming back to it (yes wasting time but I enjoy it really)

I do like the look of that car and I've got to know it a bit better. Much prefer that late 70's 80's look (surprise surprise) to later incarnations.

Had a good read of the prose and I agree sounds a lovely example but I just couldn't live with that wood trim, did I mention that?

Purely TOH but I have a feeling I read somewhere that Pullman was a steward on a train in the USA when steam began to conquer the wild west. His high standards of service to his passengers made him famous as Pullman service and it all snowballed from there. Could be absolute rubbish of course but that's what the team is here for!!

Well I have done a bit of initial digging and it seems that my thoughts were right about early USA but not about the man. George Pullman was an engineer who founded the company that built sleeper cars for the railroad. An interesting life story which can be found here. No doubt the Pullman name for luxury trains spread from there!!

As for the Cheadle Heath mystery, still to be researched!!

Well the main reason for the Pullman stopping at Cheadle Heath was to allow the residents of Stockport to use the express services to London. Cheadle Heath was a terminus on local services around Manchester so gave express passengers access to the Stockport area. The full story can be found here.
