If you have nerve pain maybe what they have done to me might help you Mike. There was a guy in the hospital that had had his left arm ripped off at the shoulder in an industrial pulveriser which h was missing a guard, and he had been getting horrible pain in the arm. They put a similar thing in his neck and it cut the pain to near nothing. It must be horrible losing an arm, but even worse to have severe pain in the arm that's not there. The way technology is going they will be able to kill pain from anywhere.

I can let you have a go on the one I have. I got it as a curiosity gadget, and then started using it when I was doing software installations on tills. It whiled away the time while waiting for the software to install (I couldn't use my Kindle or DS (for Sudoku), as client customers would complain). Client customers would ask what it was, so I would explain. The best one was a little old lady on walking sticks. After I explained what it was she asked if it could help with her arthritis, IIRC. I wasn't sure and suggested she speak to her doctor and see what he said. I was back at the same site a few weeks later, and the same little old lady saw me again, and came charging over. She told me her doctor thought it might help, so she got one, and had managed to get it up to 5,000RPM!

I'm surprised your customers complained about you using a Kindle or DS while waiting for software to install, but weren't bothered by the flashing lights and noise of a power ball!

Or is yours one that doesn't have lights ? (Yes I've used a power ball before and they are kinda neat, but noisy...)

Mine does light up, and has the counter unit. The LEDs are what attracted the attention. If a child asked what it was, I used to say it was Doctor Whos' hand grenade, and it was safe as long as the LEDs were bright. It used to worry some when they had a go, and the LEDs started to go dim.

If I were doing a system build on a till unit in a large supermarket, you could guarantee that somebody would ask me to serve them (even when I had a 'Closed for Technical Reasons' sign up). If I were reading my Kindle customers would complain to the checkout supervisor (or a manager) that I was reading when I should be working (and would not accept that I did not work for the client company, or that I was waiting for the software to get to the stage where I could complete the process). Nobody complained about the powerball, and some asked to have a go (such as that little old lady!).

I know all too well the problem of trying to fix a computer in a retail setting and having to keep advising customers that I don't work there... although I have never had any complain to the supervisor that I was slacking on the job...

The worst occasion that comes to mind was at a clothing shop where several tills were down. Due to network constraints I could only rebuild them one at a time (otherwise the working tills would stop working as the network overloaded). I was in the middle of one till build when a male customer asked me why I wasn't serving customers. I explained that I was sorting out the tills, to which I got the response of "Well, get on with it, you f**king lazy b***ard". Fortunately a floor manager heard him, and escorted him from the premises. The floor manager did ask afterwards why I couldn't go any faster, and I explained that as they had a 10Mb network, and each re-build downloaded over 1GB per till (from the local server), doing more than 1 till at a time would swamp the network, and slam the brakes on on the server.

I know, and I didn't even work for the store in question. If I had responded I would have ended up losing, as both the customer and the client could have lodged complaints. As it was, the floor manager resolved the problem without giving that idiot any leeway.

Very pleased you're still liking the C5 and that it is proving to be a reliable thing just like it has for us. It is a little dull but its a good car and I agree with you about all of the C5s merits over the Xantia.

Yes Chris, I love it. I've even got used to the radio. I was going to put my spare Sony head unit in it, but I do like the night mode where I can switch off all the dash lights apart from the speedometer - something that should be standard on all cars. The only "faults" that I can think of on it are, erm... well, the wheels need balancing. I'm almost tempted to see what's wrong with the AC and spend some money getting it fixed if it's not too serious. My missus likes driving it too because of the light steering and clutch.

It's hilariously boat like if you thrash it on a undulating twisty country road. That's when it really does feel like an old fashioned big Citroen.

Yes! It's amazing isn't it Jim? I'll get the wheels balanced today or tomorrow. Then I'll wonder about the AC, which I have no idea at all about. I'm not even sure how it works anyway..
